It is strongly believed that economy will get worse before it gets better. Saving money is becoming more and more imperative. If you haven’t already started saving money, you can begin by my making a few simple changes to your normal printing routine.

Saving money begins with you, or better said, the document. Making changes to the document before hand will prove to be very beneficial in the long run. Below are a few simple suggestions.

Use Print Preview wisely. Take advantage of the Print Preview function. Check to make sure there isn’t any unnecessary white space. If so, delete it.

Don’t use the Page Break function. This function is used a lot, mainly to separate information or because a page break would simply make the document more appealing. As long as this function doesn’t alter the overall effect of your document, you should give it a try. This is definitely a space saver.

Print on both sides. This is a big money saver. If you can print your document on both sides, do so. It’s obvious this method can cut your costs in half!

Conserve ink. When printing images, as you are guided through the printing process, you will be given the option to save ink by printing at a lower, but equally appealing quality. Unless it’s absolutely necessary to print at a higher quality, I would suggest not doing it.

Find your cursor. Press Ctrl+End to locate your cursor. This is to make sure there aren’t any extra pages or white space that should not be there. Going to the end of the document, selecting the last page (or the page with the white space), and deleting it will take care of this problem.

Next time, make copies instead. If you have an already printed hardcopy of your document, instead of printing it again, you can make copies. Yes, copies. Most copy machines manufactured within the last 10 years can print two copies per sheet (or two pages per sheet).

Thank you, please come again. If you print often, visit the same location. Whether it is Kinko’s or the local printing shop, your loyalty will not go unnoticed. Many printing services offer discounts to its regular customers.

Of course these aren’t the only methods of saving money on your printing projects, but it’s a giant first step. Keep these minor tips in mind and you will be saving money in no time.
