About the Canon PowerShot A590 IS

The PowerShot A590 IS is a great, light-weight camera than can easily replace your bulky digital SLR camera during any photo shoot or vacation. For the affordable price, you're getting one of the top 8 megapixel point-and-shoot digital cameras that Canon has to offer, and some of the most impressive photographs available on the market.

Even though it may seem a little chunky at first, the PowerShot A590 IS is very sleek and easy-to-handle. In manual mode, you have full control over all of the options like exposure, shutter speed, and the aperture. Of course, you can still shoot in automatic mode. Or, you can shoot in “easy” mode if you're not comfortable with controlling the camera and its features quite yet. This camera is meant for amateur to professional photographers.

DesignRating Good

What's great about the PowerShot A590 IS camera is that it's like an SLR, but without the bulky body and lens. It's lightweight, compact, sleek, and fits great in any pocket. It's also durable and easy to learn the controls. Compared to older PowerShots, the A590 IS is smaller and has a dark gray finish to it, unlike the older silver point-and-shoots.

FeaturesRating Good

  • 2.5-inch LCD screen: The 2.5-inch LCD screen is crisp for viewing all of your photos on. The LCD also features a night mode for easy viewing in the dark.
  • Optical Image Stabilization: Expect all of your images to be in focus, even if you're not.
  • Quick Recovery and Response Time: Without the flash on, you can take a picture every 2.3 seconds. Unfortunately, with the flash on, you'll end up waiting 5.2 seconds before you can take another photo.
  • Never Grainy: Whether it's a little shady or a bright, sunny day, you'll never find any picture to be grainy.
  • Small and Large Prints: Even though the PowerShot A590 IS is 8 megapixels, you can still print up small and large prints in perfect detail.
  • Face Detection: On the PowerShot A590 IS, the face detection is able to pick out the face of every person in the shot and correct the lighting so that each face is perfectly clear and visible.

ConsRating Average

  • Battery Life: The battery life doesn't last very long. Make sure you carry around a lot of extra AA batteries!
  • Zoom Speed: The speed on the zoom in/out is rather slow, which could result in missing out on a lot of good shots.

Price to ValueRating Excellent

The Canon PowerShot A590 IS digital camera costs about $130, which isn't too bad for a camera that could easily replace an SLR. You are definitely getting your money's worth with the PowerShot A590 IS since you're getting tons of features and a stylish, compact, reliable camera.
