  • What are you using to organize your non-pro photos

I know about Lightroom and Photoshop and so on, but they seem ill suited to my family photos.  I'm the father of a 23 month old and I have more pictures that I can shake a stick at.  I don't like to delete just to make organizing easier.

I like Windows Live Photo Gallery but I swear it takes 8 minutes to start up.  Alright, maybe not, but the full version of Photoshop loads faster.  That ain't right.

I like Picasa, but I need to be able to scroll through directories and months like there aren't there because I can't remember if it was April or May that we went to the Botanic Gardens.

I like Faststone Image Viewer, but I can't tag the pictures with words.

I'm still seeing if I like ACDSee 10, but not 100% it is the way to go.

I don't have a Mac (seriously, when I they going to allow third party vendors?  I'm not paying double the price of a regular computer just to get a Mac) so something like iPhoto is out, but even if it wasn't I'm not sure it does what I want.

Here are the features I would like (all in one program)

    • Will download photos from my card reader and use the file data to put them in directories (YYYY-MM-DD)
    • Will use the camera info to show pictures right side up automatically
    • Tags!!! - I want to be able to tag a picture with: Daughter, Zoo, Lion, Halloween, Funny  (note, the search must be more selective as more tags are selected.  I'm looking at you Microsoft.)
    • Categories
    • Albums
    • Ratings (Five star system is fine)
    • Favorites
    • Automatically updates the library when new files are added
    • Has a "Uncatalog All" option for files that were deleted with another program (I'm looking at you Photoshop Elements)
    • Loads in a reasonable amount of time (at least as fast as Adobe Dreamweaver)
    • Can store, edit, and do whatever I want offline.  (Online as an add-on is fine, but no online only features)
    • Not required, but it would be nice if it had a way to tag photos for ordering and then untag them when they were ordered

    Things I don't give a rat's butt about:

    • Integration with Facebook, Myspace, or whatever else 13 year olds are using these days
    • Integration with Flickr, Photobucket, or whatever else people randomly post photos on
    • Integration with my cell phone (Considering the space limitations I can do it manually, thank you)
    • Making collages, photo cards, calendars, or whatever else (I'll use another product for that - feel free to make two, but for an organizer I only need an organizer)
    • Sepia, Blur, blah, blah, blah

Anyone know what product I'm looking for?  Does it exist yet?
