Halloween has become a very expensive holiday for parents. Use these homemade Halloween costumes to lower your holiday cost.

Homemade Halloween costumes are a great option for last minute Halloween parties. They are also great for parents whose budgets don’t include fifty dollars or more for a store bought costume. Remember that while children do enjoy dressing up, they won’t use the costume more than once and the part of Halloween most children enjoy most is gathering candy with their friends.

Television

Use a large box that will cover the child from mid chest to just above his knees. Cut off the top and bottom of the box. Spray paint the box black. Find a picture in a magazine or online of your child’s favorite television show. Glue that to the front of the television set. Paint the on/off button, volume control, and channel changer in silver paint. Use super glue to attack black ribbon straps to the top of the box to keep it in place.

Cowboy

Just use items in your little one’s closet and a few accessories to fix him up as a western dude. A button up shirt, blue jeans, and boots make up the foundations for this outfit. Then add a red bandana around his neck and a cowboy hat. Buy a length of yellow rope and insert a wire hanger(s), shape into a lasso and your cowboy (or girl) is ready to go!

Scarecrow

This is a great idea for kids of all ages. Dress the scarecrow in a loose flannel shirt and loose blue jeans. Use double-sided tape to place square patches of fabric on the pants and shirt. Tie a rope around the middle for the belt.

Attach straw under the cuffs of the sleeves and jeans as well as around the collar with double sided tape. Also place have straw sticking out of shoes and the pockets of the jeans and shirt. Top with a straw hat and complete the outfit with a bit of face paint.

Mummy

Dress the child in a white long sleeve shirt and sweatpants. Then wrap white gauze around the limbs, torso, and head. You can also wrap gauze around shoes. Use white face paint to create a truly scary image.
