There are easy ways to save money on gas. In this part of the series you will learn ways to save at the pump and also ways to use less gas when you commute.
Use GasBuddy.com
Find the lowest gas prices in your area at GasBuddy.com. You enter either you city and state or zip code and then gas station locations in your city with the lowest prices are listed. You can find low prices for all types of unleaded fuel and also for diesel. The information is free and obtained from members and visitors of the website.
Using GasBuddy.com can save you money at the pump. However, when looking for a gas station with low prices make sure to choose one that is close to you. Otherwise, you may negate your savings if you drive an extremely long distance to get to the inexpensive gas.
Change the Way You Drive
Pay attention to your acceleration and deceleration. For every mile per hour over the speed limit you drive, you are reducing your overall gas efficiency and therefore increasing the amount of money you have to spend on gas. In addition to always following posted speed limits (you'll save yourself the money from a potential speeding ticket, too), let off the pedal when going down hill, because the car will propel you where you need to go.
Run Several Errands at Once
Pick a day when you have plenty of time for running errands. Write down all of the places that you need to go. Then, take a few moments to plan out the most fuel efficient route to complete all of your tasks. Next, write down the order of each place that you will visit and take the list with you to help you stay on track. You may want to use MapQuest.com to help you map out your course.
Take Less Trips
Save money on gas by limiting the number of trips that you make. Try grocery shopping twice a month instead of every week. If you have more than one child then schedule their doctor and dentist appointments for the same visit. Whenever possible, purchase products online instead of driving to a store. Or shop where you can purchase various items in just one location, like a superstore or a shopping center.
Take Care of Your Car
A car will burn more gas when it is not in optimal condition. So make sure to keep the maintenance on your vehicle up to date. Have the oil changed regularly. Make sure that the tires have the correct amount of pressure in them. Also, replace air filters that may be clogged. And be certain that your car is not past due for a tune up. Go Along for the Ride
Try carpooling or using public transportation. This way you share the cost of gas with someone else.
