Thank you for your interest in writing for the Investing Channel.

I'd like to give everyone a few tips if you are interested in applying to write for the channel.

The Investing Channel has a limited number of articles to publish each month, so we cannot take every writer who applies, no matter how qualified or skilled. Evaluating writer applications comes down to three areas:

  1. Writing ability - If you can't write it doesn't matter if you know more than Warren Buffet. There is one and only one way to be able to tell if you can write and that is to read something you have written. No writing sample = no dice. Don't put "I can provide a writing sample on request." I'm requesting it right now. Attach one, link one, tell me how to find one, but give me one.
  2. Investing knowledge - If you can write, but you don't know what you are talking about, then that doesn't do anyone any good. This is where you mention your experience, love of investing, theories, success and failures, etc. Experience is good, but not required. As Vital once said, "You don't have to have a heart attack to be a good heart surgeon."
  3. Responsibility and Work Ethic - I don't micro-manage. In fact, I don't manage at all. You and I agree on article topics and deadlines and you meet them. That's it. Anything else is not going to work. Show me that you are the kind of person who gets things done, not the kind of person who has excuses. Respond to messages or emails quickly and tell me about other things you do or have done where you kept up your end of the bargain in a fast paced environment.

Note on Rejection: Please note that the system provides just two buttons: Accept and Reject. There is nothing else. So, the person who is a great experienced writer that I would love to have, but just don't have a spot for gets the same rejection as the bozo who applies as a joke. There is no way for me to edit the message or to be any nicer or more friendly. Please do not take the message you recieve as my words nor my opinion of you as a potential writer. We have X number of spots and X number of writers already in those spots, so a lot of this is about the math.

Thanks,

Brian

Sorry for the way delayed response...I just saw this! I scanned the channel to get a feel for the types of articles; I saw a couple of articles on charting, but there is a lot of different indicators, each of which would make for an interesting article. Combining some of the indicators would then be follow-on topics to show how to use the various indicators to get a feel for upcoming market/stock action.

Pease let me know if there are reasonable topics, and if I could use these topics to become a contributor tho this channel.

-John

John,
Excellent suggestion. Technical analysis is an important strategy for many investors and it is definitely something we should cover.

BTW, the original post got cut off, there was a lot more. I'll try and re-post it ASAP.

Brian:

I am a new writer to Bright Hub and I have been assigned to the Web Development channel because I have published a few personal websites, mostly for my son's club sports teams.

However, I have also been a self-taught student pf technical analysis for over 25 years, and I had my NASD Series 7 (Stockbroker) license in the mid-80s. I would like to suggest that technical analysis would make a very compelling addition to the Investing channel, and there is a great range of topics to cover.

Regards,
John Tucci
