Sudoku has been all the rage this past year, especially as its been shown to improve brain function and memory. Here are my top three sudoku games you can play wherever and whenever on your Windows Mobile device.

Sudoku

Over the last several years sudoku has become all the rage. Sudoku is a relatively simple Japanese puzzle, all you have to do is fill in a grid with the numbers 1 through 9. As simple as this may seem, sudoku can be very tricky, and recent studies have shown that sodoku can be a great stress reliever, as well as a great way to improve brain function and your memory. Here are my top three sudoku games, chosen for their own unique qualities.

Smart Bunny Sudoku-- Best User Interface
Rating Excellent

Smart BunnyBecause of the recent rise in popularity for handheld sudoku games, many developers have been coming out with apps that have a horrible user interface. The numbers are always too small, the graphics are lame, and all in all, it's just a really bad user experience. Smart Bunny Sudoku ($9.95, OmniG Software), on the other hand, has large numbers, a simple, easy-to-use menu and navigation, and an unlimited amount of challenges.

The one thing I did not like about Smart Bunny Sudoku though, was the fact that unlike most Sudoku games, you could not connect to the internet and play against other players online. Although it has a very good user interface, Smart Bunny Sudoku may have become a much more appealing app if it had the ability to challenge other players.

366 Puzzle Club Sudoku-- Best Online Competition
Rating Excellent

The 366 Puzzle Club Sudoku ($4.95, Europa Software), on the other hand, has a very good online option in which you can challenge someone else to go head-to-head against you in a game of sudoku (pretty nerdy, I know, but it's fun nonetheless!). 366 Puzzle Club Sudoku has leaderboards, online competitons, and even an option to go head-to-head against someone sitting next to you, provided they have the same app downloaded on their mobile phone. It's a very good Sudoku application that encourages a bit of friendly competition.

Unfortunately, the roles were reversed in 366 Puzzle Club Sudoku. Unlike Smart Bunny Sudoku, which had a great user interface and no online option, 366 Puzzle Club Sudoku has a great online option, but a horrible user interface. The graphics are distracting, the numbers are too small, and there's no way to increase the size of the text. This app is great for those who like a bit of competitive sudoku (if such a thing exists), but not so much for those with poor eyesight.

Sudoku Daily-- Best All-Around
Rating Excellent

If you're looking for a Sudoku app that has a pretty good interface and some nice features, Sudoku Daily ($6.99, Magic Games) is the app for you. With Sudoku Daily, you can play a different sudoku puzzle every day, with a user inteface that looks quite like the user interface of an iPhone. You can change the skins of the puzzle, from one that looks like a newspaper to something a little more plain, and even challenge someone sitting next to you (again, only if they have the same app downloaded on their mobile).

The one thing that I wish was different about this app is that it only allows you to play one sudoku puzzle a day. When you first start up the app, you can chose the difficulty, but after you finish that puzzle, you can't play another puzzle in a different difficulty level. All you can do after that is replay the same puzzle over an over, which is quite a shortcoming if you're going on a long trip.
