Overview
Panoramic LaunchPad is based on the latest touchscreen technology and incorporates an easy-to-use kinetic touch scroll menu that allows you to quickly search for any app or device setting on your Windows Mobile Pocket PC. The program has a finger friendly interface, allowing quick access to all your device applications, settings, files and folders. It even includes two highly customizable ‘Favorites’ screens where all your frequently used programs are automatically added so that you can quickly access any entry with a single tap, while also allowing you to drag and drop any file, folder, app or system setting on these screens.
Panoramic LaunchPad is developed by Panoramic Software Inc and can be purchased from their website for just $3.99. A trial version is also available on the developer’s website that can be downloaded by clicking here.
The application can then be installed on all Pocket PCs operating on Windows Mobile Professional 5.0/6.0/6.1/6.5 and Classic 5.0/6.0/6.1/6.5. It works on any screen size and supports almost all screen resolutions. I recommend that my readers download and test the trial version and also check device compatibility before buying the full licensed version.
Examining Panoramic LaunchPad App
Installation was easy with the use of Microsoft ActiveSync and then I opened the app by tapping on Start Menu → Programs → Launchpad which directed me to its main window that includes four main tabs nicely placed at the bottom of the screen.
These tabs are Favorites, Programs, Settings and Exit. The application also allows you to create a shortcut on the taskbar or Today screen so that it can be quickly accessed with a single tap.
Tapping on the Favorites tab opened a new window where all my frequently used programs were already added and I could easily add a new app by simply tapping on the empty tab indicated by a ‘plus’ sign which further opened a context menu asking me whether I wanted to add a program or a setting on this window. Selecting any of these options opened a list of all the programs and system settings installed on my device where I could easily select any application I wanted to add. Once an app is added, it can be dragged and dropped to any place in the window according to your own preferences.
The app also allowed me to switch from portrait view to landscape view according to my convenience.
Finally, I could assign any color scheme by navigating to the options menu and then selecting any scheme from the drop-down menu. Here I could also configure other settings like enabling/disabling the Start menu, enabling/disabling Today screen menu, selecting icon size for app tabs displayed in quick access windows and much more. These settings are automatically saved when you tap on the cross button or exit from the app.
Final Verdict
Panoramic LaunchPad has an exquisite design as compared to the Windows Mobile interface, giving a modern look to your device. The user interface is extremely easy to handle with large and spacious tabs and keys. While it's also highly responsive to finger touches, allowing you to access any installed application or setting on your device with a single tap.
I especially liked the drag and drop feature and the app’s easy-to-use touch kinetic scroll menu that allows much faster access to applications than the Windows Mobile interface. Also, the app has a long list of options and can be configured in any way you choose according to your comfort.
But the best selling part of this app is its price. Being an inexpensive application and including loads of useful features, it becomes the first choice for users who are planning to buy a mobile shell for their Pocket PCs.
Overall, it is a nicely designed, inexpensive, easy-to-use and highly functional app and I highly recommend it to all my readers.
