If you're looking for a streamed radio app for Windows Mobile, Spb Radio should meet every requirement you have with its catalogue of 1500 stations and touchscreen usability.

1500 Radio Stations On Your Phone!

Streamed audio comes in two flavors - Last.fm style targeted music that is sent to your PC or phone based software based on other tracks you have listed to, or tuning into various radio stations streamed over an internet connection.

Usually these radio streaming applications feature a selection of stations and networks that you probably wouldn't normally tune into, particularly if you live in a metropolitan city, or hail from Northen Europe.

Spb Radio is different to any radio streaming app that has come before it on Windows Mobile - it offers a good selection of stations for a low price.

Requirements and Installation

Available from www.spbsoftware.com, Spb Radio costs just $9.95 - if preferred however a 15-day free trial option can be used. Designed to run on Windows Mobile 5 and later devices - seen here it is tested on Windows Mobile 6.5 -it will work on touchscreen and non-touchscreen devices.

Installation of all Spb products is either via an EXE file downloaded to your PC and run when your phone is synchronised via ActiveSync, or by running a CAB file on your Windows Mobile phone, downloaded either directly to yoru device or copied from your PC. The downloaded installer file is around 1.5 MB.

SPB Radio requires an active Internet connection via WiFi, WiMAX, 3G, or EDGE - and you should have a generous data plan in order to take full advantage of the serve away from WiFi networks.

Using Spb Radio

Getting started with Spb Radio is very simple - all it requires is a data connection and an idea of what you want to listen to!

Three channels are in place to begin with, and more can be added by selecting first a category, then a genre, and finally a station. There's no need to be limited by the 1500-strong radio station catalogue either, as custom choices can easily be added by entering the station URL (web address).

Spb Radio uses Spb's familiar finger-friendly interface most commonly seen in Spb Mobile Shell, and features an on-screen volume control.

The Best Streamed Radio AppRating Good

This is another hit from Spb, whose previous Windows Mobile releases include streamed video with Spb TV, an RSS news reader Spb News and of course the various versions of Spb Mobile Shell, the slick Windows Mobile user interface.

The sheer volume of radio stations available via this application means that what you're getting here is great value. If you add to this the quality of the radio stations however, it's quite obvious that a lot of work has gone into both acquiring agreements with these networks and their agencies and into the design of the software and supporting network in order to bring these all together into what is quite simply the best streamed radio app for Windows Mobile
