WalkingHotSpot will work on any Windows Mobile device from 6.0 and beyond, including use with Smartphone (Non-Touchscreen) and Pocket PC (Touchscreen) devices. The program requires 534KB of memory which can be found on your device or installed directly via your MicroSD/MicroSDHC card slot. You can also download the application via your device or directly to your computer and then sync it to your device. Overall the Requirements are pretty open.
WalkingHotSpot works by searching for available data connections and turning those connections into a WiFi HotSpot, if you're unfamiliar with WiFi Hotspots, they are basically a way to create a "connection point" where different devices can connect and use the internet from that "connection point" In the case of WalkingHotSpot your cellular device searches for and connects to your service providers mobile data connections, then turns that connection into a Mobile HotSpot that can connect up to 5 different devices such as Laptops, PC's and other WiFi enabled devices.
WalkingHotSpot displays the strength of the signals being used which can help determine the stability of the connection, I found this to be an important part of the program since I was able to find the most suitable connection for important downloads and uploads.
Once Connected I was able to receive up to 10Mbps of download speeds when the program was connected to my Laptop, with slightly slower speeds when I connected a second device to the HotSpot.
One of the most important aspects, at least in my case, is security, and WalkingHotSpot offers excellent security, in fact everytime you connect a device the application will list the new devices MAC Address (Its like the serial code for each WiFi device) and ask you if its okay to connect that device to your newly created WiFi HotSpot.
The Application also shows how much data has been transferred, this is a great option if you pay by the amount of data used and not via an unlimited data connection. Its also a great feature if your travelling and you don't want to rack up thousand dollar monthly data connection bills.
Finally WalkingHotSpot also displays what type of network you've created such as the faster 3G, Medium speed Edge or low speed GPRS connections, with this feature you can gauge which type of speeds you'll receive before you even create any connection.
Overall WalkingHotSpot is a very capable application for Windows Mobile devices that allows users to take advantage of their mobile networks data connections for use with more than just their mobile devices. It's secure, it's easy to use, and its relatively cheap at $24.99 for a lifetime subscription. If you're always on the go and you need data access almost everywhere you are I highly recommend WalkingHotSpot for Windows Mobile.
