Need to find you car in a parking lot after a movie? Where is... will guide you to its location using your GPS. Read on to find out more about this user developed freeware application.

Introduction

2Where is... is an innovative user developed application for windows mobile 5 and 6 devices. It helps you to get a perception of distance and direction of a particular location from your destination. Where is... works using google maps and your built in GPS. A situation where this application is useful is when you park your car in a parking lot and need to locate it after a movie or dropping someone at the airport. You can mark the location of your vehicle with this application and then allow it to guide you to it using an on screen compass and map view.

Overview

2Where is... is pretty easy to use after some tinkering. You basically have four screens. When you haven't specified a destination, your current latitude and longitude is displayed after the application gets a lock on your GPS. There is also a GPS status screen that shows the available satellites and their signal strengths. A compass is also present to show the direction to your destination.

The app had a slight delay in getting a lock on my GPS. oncece that was done, I had to mark my location after which it can be viewed on a destination tracking screen which shows your destination and the direction you need to travel. It's also a user developed application in a semi beta stage, thus its interface is a bit sluggish. You can then pull up a complete map view in case you want to view your location and destination, the app uses a Google Maps based interface to accomplish this. The compass view then shows you the direction to your destination relative to where you are standing.

Conclusion

Overall the app Where is... implements an interesting function and once the developer irons out the kinks in the user interface, it has a lot of potential. It would prove invaluable to hikers and campers who need to find their way back to their camping location. It does take a while to get a lock on a GPS signal which I am sure can be improved in future updates.

The app is freeware and you can download it from here.
