CryptoGraf Messaging provides the highest level of security while sending text and multimedia messages from your device. It offers a simple-to-use and uncomplicated interface and you just have to compose a text message, select the recipients from the address book and then press the send button to send this message. The program then automatically encrypts this message with recipient's public key and it can only be opened by providing a proper password. Here, users should note that this message can only be opened if the recipient has CryptoGraf Messaging installed on his device.
CryptoGraf Messaging is developed by CryptoGraf and can be purchased from Handango website for $19.99. The developers also provide an unlimited trial version that can be downloaded by clicking here.
The program is compatible with all Smartphones operating on Symbian S60 2nd and 3rd edition platforms. After connecting my Smartphone to a desktop computer, I used Nokia PC Suite to run the downloaded trial version setup file which further installed the app on my device.
After completing the installation process, I opened the app by going to my phones Main Menu → CryptoGraf Messaging which further directed me to its main screen where I could compose a new encrypted message. But in order to send an encrypted message, you have to first create a Crypto profile. This can be done by selecting any of the folders on the main screen and then the app will further guide you to a new screen where you can add your Crypto profile.
Here I could accomplish the above step easily by selecting an image for the randomizer of crypto keys and then entering my name, organization, country, phone number and e-mail address. Then I was asked to enter a password that will protect my Crypto profile from unauthorized use and after I had done that I was asked to confirm it by re-entering the password.
Now I could send and receive encrypted messages on my device. I could also easily send a Crypto contact by opening the Crypto contracts folder, selecting my Crypto profile and then accessing the options menu and selecting the ‘Send Crypto contact’ option. Here I was asked whether I wanted to send this contact via Bluetooth connection (more secure) or via a SMS/MMS (competitively less secure than sending via Bluetooth connection).
I could also view Crypto contacts (these are indicated by the phrase ‘Crypto contact received’) by going to my message inbox and then selecting the message to open it. From this section I could also save a Crypto contact by selecting it and then pressing on the ‘Save Crypto contact’ option from the options menu.
Every Crypto message in the messaging inbox is then protected with password encryption and is digitally signed and can only be accessed by entering proper password. I could open the log folder to view the time of message, which randomizer was used for that message and also to keep track of CryptoGraf usage.
CryptoGraf Messaging can be really useful for people who want to send encrypted text and multimedia messages, hiding the content of the message from others. I am not much of a text messaging fan but I really liked this idea and used it for business and banking purposes.
However, the configuration process might be a tough nut to crack for beginners because it is a bit complicated and it took me some time and sweat equity to create a Crypto profile. But once this was done, sending and receiving a message was really easy.
The price tag of $19.99 might be a little discomforting for people who don't use text messaging as a primary medium to communicate with people but on the other hand text messaging fans won't mind spending this amount to securely send their messages.
