Nokia 5630 XpressMusic Review

nokia-5630

The smartphone wars have really hottened up with the release of the iPhone 3G S, the Palm Pre and several Android based phones recently. The percentage share of Nokia is dropping rapidly, but it still is the market leader in the smartphone segment. It has released some really good phones in the past month is various price ranges in an attempt to regain its lost glory.

The 5630 XpressMusic is aimed at the lower end of the smartphone market. It is priced quite competitively at about $300 and provides a slew of features. Being an XpressMusic phone, it is very good in the music department as well. It is powered by the latest iteration of the Symbian OS 9.3 with FP2 and has a very fast processor with a nice amount of RAM. The 3.15 MP camera is basic but the music capabilities are very nice. In this review, I check out the Nokia 5630 XpressMusic and write about my impressions of the phone in detail.

Design and Build Quality (3 out of 5)

The Nokia 5630 is a very stylish and sleek phone. It sports a very attractive design which is reminiscent of the 5310 XpressMusic. It has dimensions of 112 x 46 x 12 mm and weighs about 83 gms which is very portable. It is one of the slimmest smartphones available. It is available in three color combinations - red and black, blue and grey, chrome and grey. The red and black combination is visually the most appealing in my opinion.

The build quality is very nice. The plastic body feels very durable and sturdy. It also allows the overall weight to be kept low. With normal usage, it should last at least for a couple of years. The front side of the 5630 XpressMusic sports the earpiece, secondary camera and the ambient light sensor. Below these, lie the 2.2 inch QVGA display and the keypad. On the top are the 3.5mm audio jack and the microUSB port. On the left edge, there are the standard music controls like the 5310 XpressMusic. On the right side, there is the volume rocker, camera shutter key and the microSD card slot. On the back of the phone lies the 3.15 MP camera and the dual LED flash.
