The 5130 Xpressmusic is currently the lowest priced phone in the Nokia Xpressmusic lineup. Lets see if it cuts it as a decent music phone.

The Package

The Nokia 5130 Xpressmusic comes with a fairly basic set of accessories. It comes with a miniscule 1GB Microsd card, considering its a low budget phone priced at around $100. The data cable provided is half the length of a usual phone data cable. It has a 3.5mm headphone jack and It comes with a basic stereo wired headset. I would recommend that you immediately toss them and use a proper set of earphones, as this phone is capable of pumping out tunes with good sound quality.

OS and user interface

The phone runs on the Symbian Series 40 5th Edition operating system. This includes all of the Series 40 organiser applications like the calendar, scheduler and active standby.

It sports the usual Series 40 interface. It allows flash animations to be set as the wallpaper, power saver or screen saver. The user interface has some unique menu transition effects and is fairly quick to respond. The interface allows for themes to be installed so you can customize your phone according to your taste.

Build Quality and Design

The phone is built to a price, it is very light at 88 grams and fits easily in a pocket. It comes in blue and red trims. It has dedicated music keys which these days is a requirement for any music phone. The battery cover of the phone comes with a glossy finish and has a nice design on it.

Connectivity options

The phone is Quadband enabled and has GPRS and EDGE. It also sports Bluetooth v2.0 with A2DP, so you can use it with a bluetooth stereo headset.

Multimedia options and Camera

The phone has a music player that supports a wide variety of formats like MP3, AAC and WMA. It has a equalizer so you can tune the sound to your liking. The player has acceptable sound quality, considering how low it is priced. It also has a FM radio.

The phone has a great looking, vibrant 262k color display capable of a QVGA resolution; this is surprising for a phone of its class. The phone has a 2 megapixel fixed focus camera, for an occasional picture taking moment. It supports low resolution video recording too.

Battery Life and Conclusion

The phone's 1020 mAh battery lasts about a day and a half with full multimedia usage which included 3 hours of using the music player and a couple of shots with the camera. This is more than adequate.

Overall, the 5130 Xpressmusic satisfies the need of its target audience, looking for a budget music phone. It sports all of the Series 40 OS features with above average sound quality at a low price.
