samsung-omnia7-i8700 Samsung has totally reinvented itself in the past year. In the smartphone industry, where it was once a has-been, it is now one of the most popular mobile phone brands. Samsung and Android have had a symbiotic relationship, with both benefiting from it. However, now, Samsung is trying to venture into different platforms.

It has already launched its own Bada platform, with about 5 phones announced for it so far, the latest being the Samsung Wave 2 S8530.

Now it is also planning to launch some phones running on Windows Phone 7, the latest mobile OS by Microsoft which will be officially launched on October 11. Details of the Samsung Cetus have already leaked out; the other phone is the Samsung Omnia 7 i8700.

    Hardware and OS

All the Windows Phone 7 devices that we have seen so far have sported very similar hardware, the Samsung Omnia 7 i8700 is no exception. It comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD8250 1 GHz processor and 512 MB RAM, the minimum required to be called a high end smartphone these days. It also has 8 GB internal memory.

It will run Windows Phone 7, probably without any UI enhancements. The amount of RAM and the capable processor are more than adequate for fast performance. It will come with Microsoft Office Mobile built in, so you can edit and view Word, Excel and Powerpoint files.
