Before I even started playing Word Racer I knew the game would be simple to navigate thanks to a very simple main menu that features three options: Play, Your Scoreboard and Help.
After I hit play I was greeted by a familiar screen for this type of word search game. The board included spots for available 3, 4, 5 and 6 letter words which are empty, along with a timer, the 6 letters used for play and "scramble, clear, last, end game and clear keys." I particularly like the fun design that feels like it was drawn together on a piece of paper to play with friends.
The buttons on the gameboard are all very simple to press, however there is currently no keyboard support for users who don't like tapping on their screen repeatedly.
As words are entered they are then placed in the corresponding spots for the number of letters in the word, the object is obviously to complete all of the open spaces before time runs out. As you complete the letters you'll see them appear on the list with red lettering that's fairly simple to read.
If a highscore is reached after completing a game the puzzle will also display a congratulations note on a post it note which matches the school kid like feel of the gameboard with an "x" in the top right corner that can be pressed to exit the score display.
Finally, keeping with the "handwritten" feel of the game the highscore board shown each score as if they've been written down on a piece of paper.
Currently this game is free to play and can be downloaded for free from PreCentral. I found the game to be challenging and I actually loved the simplistic graphics because they provided some personality to the game, while still allowing for simple touchscreen friendly gameplay screens that added to the enjoyability of the game.
Overall a great word play game for the WebOS mobile platform. It may offer a simple premise, but it's perfect for those 2 minute (time allowed per level) breaks you probably have throughout the day. If you're a word puzzler fan I would recommend giving Word Racer Lite a try.
