Overall Use
Rating
The main search option found on Concert Finder is very simple to use. The program asked me to enter in either a city, state or zipcode. I could also choose "Use Current Location" which auto found my location and then provided search results. This part of the program is optimized for each entry, while my "recent city" results are also shown and can be clicked to auto launch a search for those areas.
If users would prefer to search by a specific artist to see if their favorite groups will be around their area anytime soon, they can also use that option. Just type in the name or part of the name for the artist you want to search and the program will display that group. Users can even look at "favorite artists" to easily track groups they want to see in their area.
You'll notice that using the tables on the bottom of the screen you can also easily change between "Artists, Shows and Venues." I love the New World Theater in Illinois, using those buttons I can find upcoming shows at that outdoor amplitheater and other venues of my choosing.
I also appreciated the large space given to each artist and the ability to see if they have any upcoming shows which saves me the time of clicking on an artist if they are not currently touring.
Once I found an artist I wanted to investigate further I could click on their name and I was brought to their artist page. Again this screen offers useful information including the artist albums, photos including live show and promotional pictures, the ability to add them to my "Favorites" section as shown in the earlier screenshot and the ability to buy tickets if I chose to do so.
I loved using the artist page, simply because I was able to find actual venue info, get my tickets and even get directions to their closest shows. I also really liked the "photos" section which included a lot of live shots from shows.
Quick Tip: If concerts aren't pulling up on your phone in large numbers, you might want to ensure you have the distance set so all shows in the area of your search are found, some users have failed to do this and have complained about that very issue. The program pulls all of the concert information from preamped.com and should feature a good number of concerts, especially in larger areas.
Conclusion
Current the homebrew version of the program is ad supported, although they don't really get in the way. While you could download the program from the repository the programmer has also stated that a no ads version is coming to the Pre Catalog as soon as it's officially approved by Palm.
Overall I loved the venue and artist search options, the ability to find artist information and even the option to find directions to the venues I chose.
A great concert application for music fans, download it today and you won't be disappointed.
