A few years ago, JCPenney changed their long time slogan from "It's All Inside" to "Every Day Matters." They are one of the top retail stores in the nation. They have been doing well with online orders, and now they have jumped into the iTunes application store with their weekly deals application for the iPhone.
The application is broken down into four sections: shop, offers, favorites and store locator. The key component of JCPenney Weekly Deals is the shop category. This is where you can look at all of the latest deals in most of the departments at JCPenney. You can browse home, women's accessories, kids', shoes and jewelry. Let me point out, this is not their entire catalog in an application. You are only getting weekly deals.
In the offers section, you can see offered coupons and when doorbusters are happening. When you find a product in the shop section you like, then you can make it a favorite. This is helpful if you go into the store and are looking for something in particular you saw in the shop section. It brings up the price, description and a picture of the item. The final section is the store locator. You can search for stores around you via city, state or zip code. It will provide you with the phone number and directions to the store. It would have been nice if it had the store hours like the Starbucks application though.
Another feature I think would be cool, is if it had an online shopping option. I think JCPenney could easily increase business if customers could do their buying right from their iPhone. That may be part of a master plan, but currently the feature is missing. I was a little disappointed with the amount of sale items. For example, in the men's department, I was looking for the shirts that were on sale. They only had four listed. That seems like quite slim pickings in options.
The JCPenney Weekly Deals application does have a nice design to it. It is very easy to navigate to, and all of the pictures are colorful and big. You simply swipe your finger from item to item to browse. This is why I think having a larger catalog in the application would benefit them a lot more. It's a very easy application to maneuver around.
I think anybody who is really looking for deals at JCPenney, this will probably benefit you. It is also a plus if you do not receive a newspaper to see all of the deals each week. It has a free price on it, so it's worth a download if you're a fan of their styles and selections. I hope that in the future they will incorporate a full catalog to browse through.
