Peggle gives you 10 balls, much like in a pinball machine game. Except unlike pinball, the game screen is upright instead of a slight incline. Pegs and bricks appear throughout the scene in one of four colors:
- Blue: standard.
- Green: Bonus power based on the current character's power.
- Orange: Must hit all of these to move on to next level.
- Purple: Big bonus points.
The only thing you do is aim the ball and fire. Well, maybe cross your fingers, too, for a good run. Though you do little, the sound and visual effects just wow you and they wow beautifully on the iPhone.
You play a handful of levels with each character and they all have different powers that show up when you hit the green peg. The first, the unicorn, gives you extra help by showing you where the ball will go after it hits the first peg. You'll just have to meet the other characters to find out what they are and its powers as that's part of the fun.
Peggle also comes with multiple game modes, some of which you must unlock:
- Adventure: Go through the entire game, meet all the characters and work your way to the end.
- Quick Play: Play a previously played puzzle with the character of your choice.
- Challenge: 40 challenges for advanced levels.
- Duel: Play against someone or computer.
A bucket slides back and forth ready to catch the ball. But it has to be in the right place at the right time. You have no control over it. If the ball lands in the bucket, you get a free ball.
