HTC Mozart Preview: Windows Phone 7 Smartphone

HTC has come a long way from being a no-name phone manufacturer to a respected brand in the smartphone world. HTC started off making Windows Mobile smartphones but then moved on to kickstart the Android revolution. It was one of the first backers of Android with the T-Mobile G1. Since then, it has launched many new Android phones.

When Microsoft first announced Windows Phone 7, not many manufacturers were excited about it. However, HTC stated that it would launch devices on this new platform as well.

Many new Windows Phone 7 devices have been leaked, including the LG Optimus 7 and the HTC HD 7. Even the HTC Mozart has been leaked now, and it is very similar to the HTC Desire in terms of hardware. All these devices are expected to be officially unveiled on October 11th, at the official Windows Phone 7 launch.

Design

The HTC Mozart will sport a standard stylish candybar design, common in touchscreen smartphones. It has dimensions of 119 x 60.5 x 11.9 mm and is quite compact. It will have a 3.7 inch S-LCD capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels.

Below the display, there will be the three standard keys - Back, Windows and Search. It is supposed to be the Windows Phone 7 counterpart of the HTC Desire which runs Android.

Hardware and OS

As mentioned before, the HTC Mozart will run the new Windows Phone 7 OS by Microsoft. The early reviews of Windows Phone 7 seem pretty promising but whether the world needs another mobile platform is what no one knows yet. We should get the answer in a few months though.

Windows Phone 7 is a completely new OS which was built from scratch by Microsoft and has a lot of new features like hubs. It is completely different from Android and iOS and will probably be embraced by corporate users faster than normal users.

The HTC Mozart has some of the best hardware underneath its hood - it has a Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD8250 1 GHz processor and comes with 576 MB RAM. It has 8 GB internal storage and will support up to 32 GB microSD cards.

Multimedia

The HTC Mozart is quite capable when it comes to multimedia. It has an 8 MP camera with an image capture resolution of 3264 x 2448 pixels. It will also have autofocus and Xenon flash. The camera can also record 720p video at 30 FPS.

Connectivity

The HTC Mozart will have all the standard connectivity options - GPRS, EDGE, 3G HSDPA, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n etc. It also has Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP and microUSB connectivity. It will also come with a GPS transceiver and A-GPS support. It will have the new Internet Explorer Mobile 9 browser which is touted to be a huge improvement over its predecessor.

Conclusion

The HTC Mozart is one of the best new Windows Phone 7 smartphones. It will probably be available by the end of October. If you don’t decide to go the Windows Phone 7 way, check out this list of the best Android smartphones.
