Introduction

HTC make great phones worldwide. The only downside to this is that some phones are only available in certain markets, so I will go over the best phones in the US and then mention some of the other amazing phones available abroad. There are HTC phones that are highly advertised on all of the major carriers in the US.

Independent: HTC Google Nexus One (5 out of 5)

The best and, as far as I know, only phone that is sold independent of carrier is the Nexus One. It is Google’s ‘flagship’ phone and what they thought an Android phone should be. You can check out the full Google Nexus One Review for more. It is a great phone to be sure but it has had some issues with 3G and the touch screen is not as accurate as some of the others. Although not to an extremely noticeable degree, with the exception of the soft touch buttons along the bottom of the screen. They are known to be problematic at times.

T-Mobile: MyTouch 3G w/ Headphone Jack (4 out of 5)

t-mobile

T-Mobile has many great HTC phones including the MyTouch 3G, HTC HD2, G1 and HTC Touch Pro 2 among others. Part of what makes it difficult to decide on the best phone is that the hardware and software both have equal parts to play. If you go with hardware alone, the HTC HD2 is a phenomenal phone with a 1Ghz processor, huge touch screen, 16 GB SD card and 5 megapixel camera. The only drawback is that it uses Windows Mobile which has become an antiquated operating system, especially when compared to what Android and even the iPhone OS has to offer. So, since the entire experience is what we are after, I am going to have to say that the MyTouch 3G with headphone jack is the best HTC phone on T-Mobile. The hardware specs aren’t near what the HD2 specs are, but it runs version 1.6 of Android and is soon to be updated to 2.1 giving it all sorts of extra features. The headphone jack version of the phone adds more RAM and a slightly better processor than the previous versions.

Sprint: HTC EVO 4G (5 out of 5)

Sprint Logo

Sprint has a more modest selection of HTC phones, the HTC Hero, Snap, and TouchPro 2. They do have a new HTC phone that is getting ready to be released on June 4th though, and it looks as though it will blow the other 3 away. It is the HTC Evo 4G. This phone has a huge 4.3 inch, 400x800 pixel capacitive touch screen. Not to mention a second camera on the front of the phone for video conferencing, Android 2.1, and the Snapdragon 1Ghz processor under the hood. On the back of the device it has an 8 Megapixel camera, dual LED flash, and a pop out stand for watching videos! Topped with HTC’s Sense UI, I think that this phone is definitely the best that Sprint has to offer. This is a phone that will not only top Sprint’s other phones, but most other phones out there as well, it’s something that other carriers will definitely be jealous of.

AT&T: HTC Tilt 2 (4 out of 5)

AT&T Logo

AT&T has the least HTC phones out of all the major carriers. I’m not sure why, maybe they are just late to the bandwagon, as they were with Android phones in general. Of the two HTC phones that AT&T currently carries, I would have to say that the HTC Tilt 2 is the better phone. The other HTC phone carried is the Pure. The biggest difference that you will notice is the fact that the Tilt 2 has a slide out keyboard, but other than that it also has vastly better battery performance and some other hardware niceties. It has a slightly lower megapixel camera, but the rest of the phone makes up for it. Both of them run the same Windows Mobile 6.5 so there’s not much contest there.

Verizon: HTC Incredible (3 out of 5)

Verizon has been pushing their smartphones out lately for sure, with the Motorola Droid being a big one that

they have pushed. However while the Motorold Droid is a nice phone, the next iteration of the Droid is far better. The HTC Droid Incredible is an amazing phone and you can check out a full review of the HTC Droid Incredible to find out why. It is very similar to Sprint’s Evo 4G, however it has a smaller screen and does not have the second camera.

Aboot and Abroad (3 out of 5)

There are great HTC phones worldwide. Two great ones are the HTC Desire and Legend.

HTC Legend

The HTC Legend is a very similar phone to the MyTouch 3G. Some of the main differences, though, are the lack of trackball, instead there is an touch sensitive joystick, and the casing is aluminum all around. It also sports HTC Sense UI and is powered by Android 2.1. It has a nice capacitive touch screen as well.

HTC Desire

To put it into perspective, the HTC Desire is very similar to the Nexus One. There are a few exceptions to this comparison as well though. The Desire does not have the row of soft touch keys along the bottom of the screen as the Nexus One does. It keeps the more traditional 4 buttons along the bottom of the phone and puts a touch sensitive trackball in the middle. It boosts the same power and same display though.

These are a couple of the amazing phones that HTC has to offer abroad. There may not seem to be a whole lot of diversity, but why should there be? If it’s not broke, don’t fix it. One thing that HTC phones are not, is broke.

And the winner is… (5 out of 5)

I’m going to have to say that the best HTC phone that you will be able to get is the HTC Evo 4G. It is really the next step in amazing phones from HTC. The built in video conferencing ability and the huge brilliant display really help push it above the group. Not to mention the stand for watching videos or even just for ease of access if you are doing something that requires both hands simply stand the phone up and put it on speaker. The other three carriers should definitely take a hint from this phone and try to get one like it, but just one step further to stay ahead.
