In it's most simplistic of terms the GigBox application allows users to search for events in their area based on their own musical tastes, bookmark events they want to see or attended and even search for specific artists to learn more about upcoming and past concerts.
The program also adds "social networking" functions by allowing users to chat with other members during live events, rate the events as they're occuring and even publish photos directly from their phones.
Users can then use their phones and Gigbox.com to find out about shows after they've occured.
Keep reading to learn how Gigbox has been implemented on the Google Android Mobile Operating System.
The program offers a sleek interface that comes equipped with user intuitive menus. For example, starting the application involves typing in an artist name or the location for events you want to find.
If an event is live you'll notice the red "live" logo on the search, while non-live events will just show the picture. This screen is also optimized for quick scrolling and offers large "finger friendly" output so you don't accidentally launch the wrong concert.
If you choose a concert you'll then find a ratings screen that shows concertgoers reviews of the concert and when they posted their comment. You'll notice a thumbs up or thumbs down logo and even a picture next to the users rating if they've posted any pictures from the show. This again is a nicely outputted screen that features a greyish/black background with three easy to access buttons at the bottom of the screen for commenting, rating and picture sharing.
If you want to rate an event as it's occuring it's a simple matter of pressing the green thumbs up or the red thumbs down option. I was even able to change my mind during a concert and add a new Thumbs Up where I one had a thumbs down, this may occur if the set gets better or during multiple act shows where you want to add a rating and comment for different bands.
The program also offers my favorite aspect, a picture gallery. Once users share their pictures they are auto added to that concerts picture menu. From this gallery I could easily click on any picture to see a full screen layout of the shot. In large cities where more than one user is uploading pictures this makes for a great way to experience a concert from your phone.
Once you find a concert there is also a map location option that will show your current location and the location of the concert, you can then use Google Maps to receive turn-by-turn directions to the show in case you don't know the area where the show is being held.
GigBox is the most fun you'll have with a concert application on your Google Android based device. I loved the extremely simple user interface and the ability to continuously update non-concert goers of my experiences at local shows. I also liked the picture sharing application and the fact that adding to the number of pictures on the site was a simple process that could be undertaken directly from my Android phone.
Overall an excellent application that any serious music lover should download from the Android Market.
