When you pick up your phone what's the first thing you see? The desktop, the place where everything starts, it's your launchpad. This starting point should provide you with direct access to applications and other types of information. aHome Lite provides that access and more. aHome light gives access to applications, widgets, and other shortcuts just as the default desktop does, but it also provides access to other features without having to download other applications from the market. The provided weather and stock quotes widgets have proven to come in handy. With the weather application you can set your geographic location and add it to a panel on the desktop and see the lows and highs for your region. For those of you interested in the stock market and wanting to conserve device space, the included stock quotes widget would come in handy. With the stock quotes widget you are able to keep track of your portfolio at your own speed or in real time. The widget also allows the days activity to be seen in summary by way of a pop up dialoge or in detail by opening the default browser and showing the yahoo stock quote. Added functionality is the name of the game and aHome Lite puts it in your hand.
aHome Lite allows you to make your desktop work for you. The application allows you to utilize more than 5 panels on the desktop. Along with access to additional panels comes a toolbar that can have applications added to it that will remain on the screen when going from one panel to another. I have found this toolbar to come in handy for applications that I often use, it allows for quick access without having to go into any sub-menus. An onscreen keyboard is also included, it can be utilized to input criteria for a search in the search widget and not have to flip out the keyboard. It would be nice if the keyboard could also be used to bring up a contact from the homescreen, but maybe in a future release. The access to the settings are the same as the default desktop but the aHome Lite console settings provide some additional options such as: autorotate desktop, and desktop cleanup icons for those of us that love icons on our desktops.
All in all aHome Lite is a free application that gives some added functionality to the desktop of Google Android devices. It comes bundled with a weather widget, stock quote widget, and allows for 5+ panels on the desktop.
