INRIX Traffic is an Android traffic app that provides users with real time traffic information in over 126 cities in North America. The traffic information is generated by users of the application through GPS data and user generated reports. INRIX Traffic boasts a community of two million drivers. Along with the current traffic condition, the app also projects upcoming traffic conditions by incorporating several factors including accidents, road construction, the day of the week, and holidays. The app provides a detailed description of the factors which are responsible for the traffic as they occur. To download this app, launch the Android Market on your phone or visit the official site of INRIX Traffic.

Real Time Traffic & Speed Cams
Another traffic app for Android cell phones is Real Time Traffic & Speed Cams. It relies on GPS data from drivers to generate traffic conditions on a map. Each driver provides information about location, driving speed, and the direction of travel instantaneously. From this data, the areas experiencing high traffic and the areas without congestion can be presented visually. Also, travel times are calculated and traffic reports containing information about accidents and the location of speed cameras are generated. A helpful feature is the speed cam warning, which will alert you to an upcoming speed trap by flashing an icon on the map and generating a sound. The community of drivers that make up the network are referred to as Glubbers, and the network itself is called Glob. To download this app, open the Android Market on your phone and search for it, or visit the official site of Real Time Traffic & Speed Cams.

Google Maps Navigation
Google Maps Navigation is an app available for the Android platform that provides an option on its maps to view the traffic conditions. Traffic view features a color indicator that overlays the route on the map to describe the traffic congestion. Green indicates a quick travel time, yellow means that there is some traffic, and red indicates heavy traffic. The traffic data is updated every few minutes. If you see an upcoming route that is jammed, you can select an alternative route, and the app will provide directions around the congested area. To download this app, search for it in the Android Market or visit the official site of Google Maps Navigation.

Waze is an Android traffic app that uses traffic information provided by users of the application. The application is based around a live map that populates itself with information automatically as you drive. The application utilizes your GPS coordinates, as well as the GPS data from other drivers using the app, to generate a map of the roads and a description of the traffic speed. Along with the GPS data, drivers can submit reports about traffic jams and accidents. The downside to this is that most cities may not have any information due to a lack of user generated content. To download this app, launch the Android Market on your phone or visit the official site of Waze.
