Blackberry users for a long time have had easy access to their Windows based desktop operating system, however Mac PC users have been left somewhat in the dust, now however those users can connect their devices to their mac operating systems thanks to PocketMac, a freeware application that delivers.

Requirements

Mac OS 10.4 (Tiger) or the newer 10.5 Leopard operating systems.

14MB of available hard drive space

1 Available USB Port (For syncing your device via the units data sync cable)

The Mac universal application.

PocketMac Features

For a new application the features on PocketMac are top notch, I've composed a list below that highlight the main capabilities of the Mac to Blackberry Device integration product.

1. Entourage Support - After syncing your device you can seemlessly sync your device to Entourage which will give you access to your contacts, your notes, your calendar, your tasks to complete, and most importantly your personal email. I used my G4 Desktop which runs slow on the Tiger OS but I actually found that this feature ran fairly fast and allowed for full sync capabilties.

2. iCal Sync - If you prefer not to sync your Entourage calendar, or even if you do sync it, you can also integrate iCal into your device. Once synced you can add new dates to the calendar on your device or computer and share the information between both of the units. This is a great option for keeping your itinerary in check while offering added calendar options.

3. iTune Support - While Blackberry devices don't always offer the fastest internet connections, you can now get music faster than ever, simply sync your Blackberry directly to your desktop iTunes software and you can download songs to your device for playing at a latter time.

4. Shared Calendar Support - If you haven't heard of Now Contact / Up-To-Date its essentially a program that allows users to share their calendars with other members in their group. If you need to set meetings, or see what your fellow employees are up to, or let them know what you have going on then you need Now Contact / Up-To-Date, with PocketMac you may not always be in front of your computer when you need to update an important meeting or add new events to your calendar, with PocketMac you don't have to be, you can do it all directly from your computer.

5. Added Email Support - Users can take advantage of Mail.App a mail program from Mac that allows users to add notes, send themself email reminders, subscribe to and read RSS feeds, and work in general as a streamlined email content program. For anyone needing instant email access this is a great offering.

6. Meeting Maker Support - Need to setup a meeting. Its not a program with PocketMac, I testing this application and my meetings showed up directly on my device within seconds, and I was able to add new meetings and send the information to other users. This is another enterprise function that users should be able to easily take advantage of.

7. Photo Support - iPhoto is a popular image software app for Mac computers. WIth PocketMac you can easily take your photos with you. I simply plugged in my device and chose the iPhoto application selection and I was ready to go.

8. Charge and Sync Simultaneously - You can literally use PocketMac and all of its features while at the same time receiving a total phone charge from your device.

Those are 8 of the major features I found to be the most useful. However there are many more offerings available as you learn more about the application. If you would like new themes they are available for the cheap cost of only $9.95, while custom ringtones are available at only $14.95. The makers of PocketMac are competent, their program is streamlines, and best of all its free so what do you have to lose. You can download the app here, that link will also show you the full list of compatible Blackberry devices supported by PocketMac (Most modern Blackberry devices are included). With that being said I would highly recommend that all Blackberry users who use a map take a closer free look at PocketMac.
