We all covet the threaded SMS support on our much-loved BlackBerry devices. But who wouldn’t jump on the chance to make it more fun and intuitive? The SwooshSMS v0.94 by Swoosh Software, which is a threaded SMS application for BlackBerry, offers contact photo support. This means that the next time you're indulging is some good old texting; you'll also be privy to your friends good-looking mug!
The application makes use of the photos stored in the address book and hence BlackBerry users can view their messages in threaded style.
The application is also capable of clearing message counts but those who are on CDMA devices will get their swoosh messages through the BlackBerry SMS application.
As soon as I accessed the application via my Downloads folder, I received a message which said, “SwooshSMS will receive all new SMS messages but it is not possible to import existing messages. Usual SMS charges apply”.
While I was happy that I could use this service without any extra cost, the fact that old messages couldn’t be imported bummed me out a little. However I proceeded to click okay and was greeted with a big white screen, which had the word “EMPTY” written on it.
Upon selecting the menu, I came across options that included: “Goto Top”, “Goto Bottom”, “Compose”, “Options”, “Unlock” and “Close”. For now the first two options were useless for me since I didn’t have any messages stored on the application.
I then clicked on compose and was directed to the Address Book where I picked a contact and messaged my best friend. In a few seconds my friend responded back. Then we indulged is some gossip text style and I must say I was impressed how the application worked without any glitches. The fact that the application incorporates pictures further made for an enhanced experience that more matched an instant messaging program than a threaded text messaging option.
All the messages then appeared threaded style and it was really fun to chat with my friend via the application. The "Goto Top” and the “Goto Bottom” option also made scrolling much easier.
While there is no denying that the SwooshSMS application works without any hassles and is a fun way to communicate with friends and family, the $9.99 price tag makes it a little pricey in my opinion.
What worked for the application was its simple and fast interface. However I wish the application could import previous texts and I hoped for more customization options. But over all the SwooshSMS application doesn’t disappoint and comes recommended.
