While the Food Network application may have the "Canada" name attached to it, this app is actually great for users from all over the place, featuring interactive recipes, quick loading and streaming videos, it kept me in the kitchen searching for ingredients for my next dish.

Introduction

While the name may say Food Network Canada, the Blackberry program actually shows various programs from both Canada and the U.S. in the form of video clips. Using the program I was easily able to find recipes, watch tutorials on how to create special dishes and even find dishes based on the occasion of the dish: Easter, Birthdays, Christmas, Thanksgiving and more! The program offers a very simple, yet effective interface and plenty of recipes with over 10,000 to choose from!

Overall Use
Rating Good

The main navigation screen on the Food Network Canada application is simple to figure out. The top of the screen offers three tabs, the first is the "Recipes" tab, the second is the "My Recipes" tab where you save all the recipes you love or want to try out and the final tab is the "Videos" section where you can find a variety of videos.

I started by clicking on the "Recipes" tab, in this section I was then given the option to choose which recipes I wanted to view, you can see a few of them in the screenshot above, however there are also the following categories: Healthy Living, Kid Friendly and Occasions and Events, which pretty much covers all of the major type of cooking events.

As I mentioned earlier, each section then contains specific recipes based on categories, for example when I clicked on the "Occasions and Events" section I was shown all of the types of food I could create for each type of occasion after I selected what the special event was.

Once I chose a recipe I was again please with the very simple interface offered by the application. The 'overview' tab showed nice large pictures of the final plates for most recipes, while a seperate tab allowed me to simply view the ingredients I would need and then the "directions" tab showed me the actual process used to create the dish.

Along with the recipes section you can also see what chef hosted the show where the recipe originated from if the recipe came from a show.

While the "recipes" section was a great way to find new treats, be it dinner or dessert, my favorite part of the program was the ability to watch how-to videos that had been created directly by the Food Network team. The video player was simple enough to access, on the main screen just click on videos. After clicking the video tab I then chose recipes or how-to-guides and the player launched.

After a video has been selected it then launched into the video player, this option allows for a time bar so you can move the video forward and backward, along with your fast forward, rewind, stop, play and volume options. The player is your standard fair with a black background that ultimate does an excellent job.

Conclusion

Super easy to use, full of thousands of excellent recipes and packed with fun and informational videos, what more could you ask for! I absolutely love to cook and love the Food Network here in the United States and the Food Network Canada is just as good, with a bunch more "eh's" thrown in for good measure ;)

Overall this is a great Blackberry application from the Blackberry App World and at the wonderful price of FREE! I highly recommend that you download the program and give it a try today! If you're still not convinced head on over to FoodTV.ca and just take a look at all those excellent recipes and videos, then you'll be downloading the app in no time.
