Frogger is one of the most recognizable games of all time. There's just something addictive about hopping that little frog across traffic and over logs. Now you can hop the frog over even more types of terrains. Keep reading for a closer look at this modern version of Frogger.

Introduction

Frogger is a fun game whether playing in on a console, pc or a mobile device. I've yet to find a game of Frogger I haven't enjoyed. However the Blackberry version falls short of being one of the better versions I've enjoyed. The game may not be the most playable to date, but it does take Frogger in a new level by offering various types of obstacles that have yet to be seen on Frogger games.

When I first started playing this version of Frogger I noticed a familiar theme, a first level where I crossed a street filled with cars, hopped over some logs and landing in the open bays across the stream. I should mention that you'll need to watch out for alligators that pop up in the open bays as you play. Here's a basic level from the game.

Once I got past the basic levels I liked the new inventive obstacles that were employed, such as spikes coming out of the ground that must be avoided:

You'll also notice that the footer of the game includes the number of lives remaining, the time left for each level (yes you have a time limit) and a score option so you can try to beat your personal best scores. The footer was also optimized for placement so it didn't make the rest of the game feel crowded on the small size of mobile displays.

My favorite part of the game however is the advanced stages where you have to make your frog jump over lava and other obstacles, while standing on smaller platforms. It doesn't increase the difficulty to the point where it makes it impossible to play, but it adds a new level of gameplay.

Finally the game controls are simple to master. I did find that the trackball seemed a little more responsive however than the keyboard on my Blackberry Curve. Otherwise the game controls take about 2 seconds to master.

Conclusion

Frogger for Blackberry offers new game levels to play and average graphics. I personally think $6.99 is a bit high for the game from the Blackberry App World, however I do think if you love the original game you'll enjoy this take on Frogger.

Give it a try today if you're a TRUE fan, otherwise your money may be better spent on other Blackberry games.
