Snake Deluxe 2 is a fun version of the classic Snake computer game. Not only can you eat fruits to grow the size of your snake, you can also play in Adventure mode with excellent graphics and overall fun gameplay.

Introduction

The Snake Deluxe 2 game offers graphics you won't find on the original snake PC game, the shading on the game is excellent and it's immediately obvious that the developers put a good amount of thought into the application. The gameplay is also simple with easy controls which makes picking up the game and getting started a piece of cake.

If you're unfamiliar with how the game is played it's simple, the more pieces of fruit you eat the larger your snakes body gets. If you run into your own body or into any obstacles you lose a life. It's that simple.

Overall Gameplay
Rating Good

This version of the classic Snake game is much more robust than any other version I've encountered. For example there are 4 worlds with 8 levels in each word and four bosses to face, while the original game had a square box with a snake.

The moment I launched Snake Deluxe 2 I knew the game play would be simple, even the main menu makes finding your way around a piece of cake. From the main menu I could choose to play in "easy" and "hard" modes or go to the "adventure" levels which contain the four different worlds and bosses. I could also access the high scores menu and set options such as sound on/off abilities.

After launching into the game I was thoroughly impressed with the graphics which were "scenery intense" meaning that each level featured its very own distinct backgrounds from forests to ice slopes. While the scenery didn't move during gameplay it added refreshing new views so the game didn't feel "old and tired" as I progressed through the levels.

As I mentioned you won't always been in the forest, for example here's the icy slope:

You'll also notice that different obstacles are shown on each of the levels, these obstacles range from simple blocks in the middle of screens to larger areas you must avoid.

The bosses typically involve finding the strategy to defeat them, I don't want to give that strategy away but here's a screenshot of one boss:

Finally I liked that in adventure mode I could see on the bottom of my screen how many lives I had remaining and the amount of time for the level, all within a quick glance of the main game play screen.

Conclusion

Snake Deluxe 2 is a fun game that can be found via the Blackberry App World. I found the grapics to be decent, the controls to be simple and the adventure mode to be a nice addition to the traditional games play mode.

I also enjoyed that the game was family friendly and offered hours of gameplay. It even came with a free trial which made testing before buying all that much more simple.

Overall a great option for Blackberry users, especially if you grew up playing the rather simplistic original PC version of the game on the commodore 64 or Amiga systems.
