A Blackberry theme refers to the way your Blackberry screen is displayed and how your Blackberry icons are organized for viewing. If you go to “Options” on your phone, you can scroll down to “Theme” and experiment with a few Blackberry themes that are already available for you to choose from.
Aside from the themes that are pre-installed on your device, did you know that you can select from a wide array of other Blackberry themes to fit your tastes and/or personality? Whether you’re a football fan, a fashion diva, a nature lover or you just love abstract images and art, if you take a look around the web, you’re sure to find a few Blackberry themes that interest you. If you don’t find any, you may also want to seek out a developer to create a customized theme for your Blackberry.
There are many sites and forums that feature Blackberry themes for download and, once you find one that you would like to try, you can either download the selected theme to your computer and then upload it to your Blackberry or you can download the theme directly to your phone via an OTA link (OTA = over the air).
Once you start to browse different sites, you’ll also notice that some offer themes for a small fee or donation, but there are several that offer free Blackberry themes for download. Unlike a PC, a Blackberry is not prone to viruses, so themes are pretty safe to download from such sites. However, it’s important to pay attention to the operating system (OS) that the theme was created for. For instance, a Blackberry theme that was created for a 4.5 OS isn’t going to work well on a 4.2 OS. In fact, downloading a theme that’s not compatible with your OS can cause damage to your phone. Usually the damage is reversible by uninstalling the theme, pulling your battery and restarting your device, but there’s always the possibility that this won’t work and further help may be necessary from an authorized technician.
An easy way to avoid having this happen to your phone is to make sure that the theme you’re adding (or any application, for that matter) is compatible with your OS. If you’re not sure what OS you’re using, you can easily check by going to “Options” and then clicking on “About”. There, you will see a blurb about your Blackberry, which also lists your OS. It’s common to only refer to the first two digits that identify your OS, but really it’s a much longer sequence (for example, my OS is v4.3.0.127, but it would be referred to as simply 4.3 in a discussion among other users).
Also remember to always back your device up before installing a new theme or application.
So, if you’re interested in making your device stand out, consider personalizing it with a new theme. It’s a fun way to display your personality along with your icons and a creative theme is sure to capture the attention from curious onlookers. Everyone already knows that Blackberry is a great device for business, but a Blackberry theme can give your screen a fun, unexpected and interesting makeover.
