Check the Received Using Field

Check your email’s “received using” field to identify where the messages are coming from. You may receive one from the BlackBerry email account set up on the BlackBerry Internet Service, and one or more from an enterprise server. This is normally caused by one or both servers forwarding or redirecting mail that you have already received to the other email address. If this is the case follow these instructions to solve this problem.

  1. From the home screen click on “setup” then “email settings”.
  2. Select the integrated email that you want to remove.
  3. Press the BlackBerry key and select “delete” from the menu.
  4. Select “yes” when asked to confirm the delete.
  5. Click OK after the confirmation.

Corrupt Forwarding Rules

You may have a corrupt forwarding rule on the server that is sending duplicate emails. Check the message ID of the email and if it is different for each message then you will need to contact your messaging server administrator to have a corrupt rule deleted.

Auto BCC Field is Causing Problems

Another cause of duplicate emails is when the Auto BCC field is set to use an email account that is already linked with the BlackBerry device. To resolve this, the email address in the Auto BCC field will have to be removed. Here is how:

  1. Log into the BlackBerry internet service account.
  2. Click on the edit next to the email account.
  3. In the general tab, modify or set the Auto BCC field.
  4. Click save and close out.

Another Email Account for Another Region

Duplicate emails can be caused by an email address that is set up in the BlackBerry Internet Service in two different regions. Such as America and Asia Pacific.

To resolve this, search for the email address, that is receiving duplicates, in other regions. If you locate more than one then contact the administrator to have one removed if possible.

Duplicate emails can cause problems with mail server storage and cause you to spend a significant amount of additional time cleaning up mailboxes. There are a number of causes for this but there are also a number of solutions that will help you to resolve this problem as well. You can also check with your Exchange Server administrator or Service Provider for additional information on duplicate emails.
