The battery display on the top right of your screen in your Blackberry Smartphone is tiny. SmartBBattery is a freeware application designed by Quitesimple software that puts a color coded battery status indicator on your home screen. T
he basic requirements of the application is that your phone is running Blackberry OS 4.2, 4.3, 4.5, 4.6, 4.7 or 5.0. The application also supports different display resolutions and scales the battery icon to a size that is commensurate with your screen size.
The application supports the following screen resolutions - 160 x 160, 240 x 160, 240 x 240, 240 x 260, 240 x 320, 320 x 240, 360 x 480, 480 x 320 and 480 x 360.
SmartBBattery is easy to get started with and use. First you need to open the application from the apps menu and use the back button, you will then find the battery status on your home screen. The battery icon shows a color and the percentage of charge left. The three colors indicate the following charge levels: - Green (Battery life left is more than 80%)
- Yellow (Battery lifeleft is between 20% and 80%)
- Red (Battery lifeleft is less than 20%)
Though the charge level is displayed on the home screen without this application, it often gets hidden when you use funky themes; Moreover the tiny battery level display is difficult to decipher when using a low contrast theme. SmartBBattery solves this problem by giving you the status of your battery in one glance with its unique color codes and percentage indicators.
SmartBBattery is a simple but useful application that you should try out. A gripe that I have with the application is the inability to customize the battery icon to make it match my theme. The battery indicator therefore stands out like a sore thumb when you are using a funky theme. Those with any vision problems will also find this app useful to get a better view of their battery status.
The developer has promised more updates to this application, so we should be seeing some much needed improvements in the future.
