The existing functionality of Blackberry phones allows you to add a number to your address book after a call. But it adds it only to the default work category. If you want to change the category of the number to home, pager or any other category the only way to do it is to copy the number from one field to another.
Wouldn't it be convenient if you could add a new number to your address book to any category of your choice? That's where Berrylocals Phone Assistant fits in. The program allows you to conveniently add a new contact to your address book to any category of your choice, saving you the extra effort of changing the category by manually copying and pasting it.
The application works on phones running Blackberry OS 4.2 or higher.
When a person calls you and their number is not there in your address book, the application prompts you as shown in the screen capture on the right. You can then choose to add the contact to any of the predefined categories - Work, Home or Mobile. It then automatically creates a contact with the given specifications.
If the person's number already exists in your address book you will be prompted. You can also merge the number to a pre-existing contact. The application prompts you and you can choose which category you want the new number to go.
The application is inspired from identical functionality offered in Windows Mobile Smartphones which have this feature built into the OS. Inserting numbers in their correct category becomes a two step job with this application.
The application peforms a dead simple task and does it well without any bulky and unwanted features. The function performed by this app should have been integrated into the OS in the first place.
The application is priced very reasonably at $4.99 and it definitely warrants a try for those who like to stay organized and want to save the effort of micro managing their address book after adding a new contact.
