Prevent accidental keyboard and touchscreen input on your Blackberry with LockIt. Read on to find out more.

Introduction

1LockIt is an application that allows you to automatically lock your device after a predefined idle period, to prevent accidental input using your Blackberry touchscreen and buttons. The lock feature can be configured specific to applications on your Blackberry and the app works on phones running Blackberry OS 4.2.1 or higher.

The developers also claim savings in battery life due to reduced use of the LCD backlight when the phone is not in use.

Overview

1

The Lockit application first needs to be enabled from within the applications menu. Once that's done you can choose to configure it or continue using it with the default settings. Once the application is activated, the device gets locked after the idle interval. To unlock the device, you will need to press a two button or single button combination based on your device.

I liked the fact that LockIt required very little configuration to get it working. There isn't much that you would need to configure in an auto locking application anyway. You basically specify a locking interval after which the app kicks in and locks your keypad.

You can also decide what applications you want to exclude from locking, this will prevent annoying moments where you need to repeatedly unlock your phone while in the middle of using an application. You can select any application installed on your Blackberry for this purpose. The application can be automatically updated OTA via a wifi connection. A choice of 6 languages are provided in the application.

Conclusion

LockIt is a no frills light application that's made for a single purpose and does it well. The app is easy to install and get running and is light on the phone resources. The app is priced at $6.99 which is on the expensive side for such a simple procedure. However, this application should work well for people who tend to forget to lock their phones manually; the rest of us could get by without the use of this application.

The trial version of the software provides just 20 locks after which you get a nagging screen asking you to purchase the full version. The developers could have been more generous in this regard. You can download an OTA trial here.
