Read on to find out about ShortcutMe, an application launcher and shortcut manager for your Blackberry.

Introduction

ShortcutMe is an application launcher and shortcut manager for those who require access to repeatedly accessed applications and tasks at the push of a button or button combination. You can customize and create shortcuts for simple tasks such as creating a memo, placing calls, sending a message, enabling and disabling Wi-fi, launching a URL and many such tasks. While there are currently quite a few applications that perform similar functions, ShortcutMe manages to hold its own.

Installation

ShortcutMe can be downloaded from an OTA link here. It requires a device running Blackberry OS 4.3 and above which includes the Storm, Bold, Javelin Curve, Curve, Pearl Flip, Pearl and 88xx series phones. The application is light and occupies very little space in the device memory. It supports touch based navigation on the Blackberry Pearl.

AThe main screen of ShortcutMe displays a list of applications along with their shortcuts. About 70 shortcuts are preconfigured for your usage and are abbreviated corresponding to the application that they launch. Major applications such as your Address Book, Browser, Calculator,Calendar, Camera, Clock, Face book, Flash Light, Home Screen, Messages, My Space, Options, Phone, Profiles and tasks are already configured in the list of shortcuts. Even popular third party apps such as Twitter Berry are already present which is convenient as you don't have to add a new shortcut. I assigned the shortcut keys FB to the mobile facebook URL which opens up facebook in the browser, giving me instant access.

The color of each application name can be modified along with the shortcut. You can also edit and remove any shortcuts from the list. To view an existing shortcut, you need to type in the application name and all relevant shortcuts are displayed on the main screen. This saves you the effort of remembering multiple shortcuts.

Functionality

The color of each application name displayed on the main screen can be modified along with the shortcut used to launch it. I found the the color scheme of the text useful to categorize the apps on the phone.

You can also edit and remove any shortcuts from the list. To view an existing shortcut, you need to type in the application name and all relevant shortcuts are displayed on the main screen. This means you do not have to remember all the shortcuts and keying in the application name is enough. Read the next part of the review to find out about the application usage and configuration options.
