Capture Blackberry Screen Shots with CaptureIt

Need a screenshot of something on your BlackBerry's screen? Use CaptureIt to snap exactly what you see on the screen and share it.

Christian covered BBScreenShooter, which I've used. It requires connecting your BlackBerry to your desktop to use. TechMogul Industries' CaptureIt doesn't. You can snap a shot of your BlackBerry screen with a shortcut button and send it by email, Bluetooth, SMS or Google Chat.

This free app has helped me create screen shots for BlackBerry applications so you can see them in action. Before downloading CaptureIt, make sure you have version 4.3 or higher of your BlackBerry's operating system. If you don't have 4.3 or higher or change the permissions, it will give you errors as it did for me because I was not on 4.3 (thought I was).

To see what version of BlackBerry software you have, go to Options and About. The version appears near the top of the page.

You can download it straight from your BlackBerry's browser by going to:

http://www.thetechmogul.com/CaptureIt/CaptureIt.jad

When it begins downloading, change permissions to ensure they all show "Allow." You can change the application's permissions during the download process or after downloading it. If you already downloaded it without changing permissions, do the following:

  1. Select Options, Advanced Options, and Applications.
  2. Scroll down to CaptureIT.
  3. Press the left BlackBerry button for a popup menu.
  4. Select Edit Permissions.
  5. Change all permissions to Allow.

It saves all of the images to your memory card, or to your BlackBerry's memory if you don't have a memory card. You can assign CaptureIt to a convenience key, or skip it and access from the left BlackBerry button's popup menu that contains "Capture It."

I have only two complaints about the software. I'd like to assign a shortcut to take snapshots because I already use my two convenience keys for other apps. Also, it won't scroll down to take one long picture of the entire screen. Capture It only captures what you see.

Another great way to use CaptureIt is to snap your BlackBerry's home page. That way if you ever get a new BlackBerry or restore it to manufacturer's settings, you know what apps you have and how they're organized. I love to organize my stuff, so that's important to me.

Should you have trouble with the app, check out the Crackberry forums with lots of information about CaptureIt. Thanks to CaptureIt, you have plenty of screenshots here to see how it works.
