Very little is known about the design, looks, weight and dimensions of the Blackberry Gemini 8325. If you search the web you might find some images of this device on certain websites but I don't know if these images are made in paint shop or are real. But most probably, the screen will be almost the same as you have seen on the Blackberry Curve 8900 featuring a color TFT display at a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels. Just below the screen, we will see a trackball which has become more of a symbol on Blackberry devices than any other single piece of hardware. This trackball will be surrounded by four calling keys. The color of the device is also not known yet, but it might be launched in metallic silver and royal black (Again staples of Blackberry launches). Below the trackball will be the full QWERTY keyboard, like the back-lit one we have seen on the Curve 8900.
Rumors are that this device will be based on the new Blackberry 5.0 operating system. Most probably it will have a faster processor operating at a frequency of 500 MHz or more. It will be compatible with data network connections including GPRS and EDGE, but we might see the absence of 3G here considering the entry level label being given to the device. It will also have an in-built Blackberry browser with RSS reader, like the one we have been following via the 8300 and 8900 Smartphones. The full QWERTY keyboard will be supported by T9 predictive text input feature. There is still uncertainty whether this device will have an in-built GPS receiver or map guidance applications, but it will certainly come with a Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and a USB port along with synchronization features so that it can be connected to a personal computer. It will also have voice features like voice dialing, voice recording, voice commands, speakerphone mode and push-to-talk.
The phonebook will also be able to store unlimited number of contacts depending upon the external memory of the device. However, at this stage there is no information about how much external memory will be pre-installed on the device. The phonebook will have regular features like multiple phone numbers per contact, picture ID and ring ID. Blackberry is famous for its business applications, so this new model is bound to have an extremely user-friendly organizer with features like calculator, calendar, alarm, world clock, To-Do, converter, notepad, scheduler and much more. It will also have a media player like the one we have seen in other Blackberry devices that will be able to play wide a range of audio and video formats.
Messaging will be made easy using the powerful Blackberry OS and the user will be able to send SMS, MMS, e-mail and instant messages with no difficulty. It will have an in-built 2 mega-pixel mobile camera with the usual LED flash. Camera could have been better, but as I have told you before this device will be placed in the price segment between that of Curve 8300 and Curve 8900, so it will have to do with a 2 mega-pixel one to keep its price in control. There is not much information available about the capacity of the removable Lithium-Ion battery that will be installed on the device, but I can assure you it will be good enough to keep you going for days.
As told by sources, this device will be launched by third quarter of 2009 or can see the markets by first quarter of 2010.
We'll keep you updates with Pics and more specs as they're made official.
