There are literally thousands of Blackberry Applications available for download online and directly to your Blackberry device, and while many of those applications cost money to download or charge a monthly fee, there are many free blackberry applications that are very fun and useful.
While there are many Blackberry Apps that users can obtain for free, I wanted to create a list that includes different types of applications, that is applications that offer different types of functions. Here's my quick list of the top 5 free Blackberry applications that every user should download and use to get the information they want and need on their Blackberry while they're on the go.
This is one of the best mobile RSS feed programs. Viigo comes equipped with a ton of RSS feeds from Technology to Science to Sports to Politics. Right out of the box it's easy to find any topic you could possibly want from the world of news.
Viigo also has an auto-configure option that allows users to type in their favorite websites and the program will automatically help find the site's RSS feed, making it easier than ever to stay connected to your favorite sites.
Preconfigured feeds also allow you to easily set up traffic alerts, stay up to date with flight information, and track packages from UPS, the U.S. Postal Service, FedEx and DHL. The new version, now in beta testing, adds support for custom search alerts and even podcasts.
Take a look at the screenshot below and you'll notice the programs clean lines and excellent setup:
The Opera Mini browser increases the speed at which pages are rendered on Blackberry devices by passing page requests through Opera servers. That means your Blackberry isn't taking the grunt of the work itself, making page loads much faster. The Opera Mini cache program also means that when you hit the back button and return to past pages your browser loads much more quickly than the first time around.
Opera Mini also offers the abillity to zoom in on pages and then zoom back out with the simple click of the Blackberry track wheel. However, most important is the fact that Opera Mini shows pages as they were intended to be viewed, in full color and depth, with the help of zooming of course.
Overall Opera Mini is my browser of choice on every device other than the iPhone series. It's fast, it's easy to learn, and it's free, what more could you ask for?
