TalkLock for Blackberry Storm

New storm users have found many benefits in owning the first touch screen Blackberry. TalkLock offers a new benefit to Storm owners. Read this article to see what that new feature is.

One problem that Storm users have come across is accidentally initiating applications during a call. The Blackberry Storm is void of any sensors that alert the device to when a phone is in use. Because of this the touch screen isn't inactive during a phone call. This has given users a mighty headache since screen actions aren't blocked and applications are initiated by accident.

CellAvant is trying to solve this problem with the release of their new Blackberry application, TalkLock. A more accurate description of the application comes from the company itself:

"TalkLock is a free utility that automatically engages a few seconds after a call is connected, and intercepts touch screen actions. This prevents screen presses from launching programs or invoking functions while you talk."

The installation was fairly easy and simple. On inspection, the application worked just as it described; it delivered on all of its promises. Other than being incrediblyconvenient, TalkLock brings other great features to the table:

  • Runs automatically after installation and starts up after every reboot
  • Connects automatically seconds after start of phone call
  • Application hides automatically when call is completed
  • 'Slide to Lock' function that allows user to unlock the touch screen functionality manually
  • Background image is fully customizable

I wanted to give the application a try and see how well it worked. I am one of those Storm users who complained about the touch screen several times. Although, the touch screen is what drawn me to the device in the first place, it was the cause of many of my frustrations with the device. My constant frustration was caused by the fact that I would constantly have applications running while I was on a phone call by accidentally engaging in the touch screen actions. It would have been more practical if there were a way for the Blackberry to deactivate the touch screen functionality while a call is connected.

I also was skeptical of getting the application at first. For one, it is still in the 'beta' version. I don't know how many times I've wasted money on the next big application for the Blackberry, only to be disappointed by the end results. Good thing for me that CellAvant was offering a free 30-day trial by submitting only an email address. I am glad that I gave TalkLock a try; you won't be disappointed if you do also.
