BlackBerry enthusiasts are constantly trying new applications on their phones. Some we keep forever and others we tire of or discover that we have no real use for. The following article will show you how to successfully and completely remove unwanted applications from your BlackBerry smartphone.

Unwanted Applications?

The BlackBerry mobile device comes preloaded with many fine applications to help simplify your life and better manage your time. There are also many 3rd party applications designed exclusively for the BlackBerry mobile platform and a few that may not have been designed specifically for the BlackBerry, but are compatible with various operating systems and very easy to install on a BlackBerry device. However, even with all the fine applications to choose from, there will be times when you no longer want or need certain ones on your mobile device. Removing applications is almost as easy a task as adding some of them and most don’t take long to uninstall.

How To Delete Unwanted Applications

If you find yourself wanting to remove an application, simply follow these simple steps. In your Options folder, select Advanced Options. You will then see a menu item that reads Applications; select this item and your BlackBerry will begin the very fast process of building an application list. The next screen that you will see is your Applications folder where all of your applications are stored. Select the application that you wish to remove, press your BlackBerry menu key and choose the delete option from the pop up menu.

If A Battery Pull Is Necessary

Most applications fully delete after those simple steps. However, there are some that require you to restart your BlackBerry before the application is fully removed. There are two methods with which you can choose to restart your BlackBerry. One is commonly referred to as a battery pull and the second is a soft reset. The battery pull is pretty self-explanatory. Simply remove your BlackBerry battery for several seconds, reinsert it and then restart your BlackBerry. It will take approximately three minutes to restart, but when it does, the unwanted application will be completely removed.

Performing A Soft Reset

Pressing the Alt key, your right shift key and the Delete key at the same time performs the second method, known as a soft reset. Just like with a battery pull, your BlackBerry will reboot and after a few brief minutes the unwanted application will be completely removed.

Rebooting For Other Issues

Although both of these processes help you remove unwanted applications, they are also good methods to use whenever your BlackBerry screen freezes or when you’d like to reset your memory (it will usually make a bit of an increase on a reboot) or whenever you get the dreaded hourglass that doesn’t want to go away. Neither a battery pull nor a soft reset does any damage to your phone, but knowing how to use both methods is good to know if you ever need them.
