Are We Headed For A Storm?
Yes…and real BlackBerry enthusiast couldn’t be more excited! Move over iPhone. Not to be outdone, RIM has developed its first touch-screen BlackBerry called, appropriately, the Storm. Taking the smartphone market by storm, this new generation touch-screen BlackBerry has already received rave reviews from users in other countries who received it before U.S. markets. Due to be released in mid-November, the Storm is predicted to make a huge splash in the smartphone market.
What Does The Storm Offer?
Unlike the iPhone, users report that the click-through technology on the Storm’s touch-screen allows for more accurate typing. Since the characters actually “click” when you touch them, it allows more certainty in typing than the iPhone, which responds to a slight (even mistaken) touch.
The Storm also comes with a large 3.2-inch screen, 1 gigabyte of memory and is expandable to accommodate up to 8 gigabytes with an additional memory card. It features a 3.2 mega pixel camera and a built-in video camera for recording all of your most memorable moments.
The downside (for some anxious fans) is that, at this time, The Storm and its new touch-screen technology will only be available to the U.S. market through Verizon.
What Else Is In Store For The Storm?
Rumor has it that RIM will soon be announcing the addition of a new application store to appear first on the BlackBerry Storm (OS 4.7). As the store is later extended to other Blackberry models, it is rumored that it will be carrier-specific, meaning that each carrier will customize the BlackBerry Application stores which will be featured on the devices they sell.
What this means for you is that now, instead of searching for the latest BlackBerry applications using your phone’s browser or your pc, you will be able to click on a shortcut from your home screen and be taken directly to a storefront offering all of the latest applications available to you through RIM and through your carrier. You will be able to purchase and download new applications right from one central location without having to schlep all over the web for different 3 party apps to install on your device.
