Purpose of Knowing the BlackBerry Application Size

The BlackBerry operating system allows you to see the size of all your applications downloaded or stored on your BlackBerry device. Knowing the application size allows you to determine if you need to remove the application or if you have enough room to download another application. You can view the application size by clicking the menu options on your BlackBerry device. If you download an application and soon after you download it, your device starts to transfer data, receive messages, emails and media slowly, you may want to remove the application from your device.

Check a Downloaded Application Size

Check the size of any application downloaded or stored on your BlackBerry by clicking the “Options” icon on the BlackBerry. Click “Advanced Options” and select “Applications.” Roll the trackball down to highlight any application you want to see the size of. Press the BlackBerry button, the button with all the dots on it, after you highlight the application. Highlight and select “Modules.” Scroll down again and look for the application you want to see the size of. Highlight the application and press the BlackBerry button again. Click “View Properties.” Scroll down to the “Size” field and look at the size of the application. The size of the file will be shown to you in “bytes.”

Check a Stock Application Size

A stock BlackBerry application is an application that is standard on all BlackBerry phones. An example of a stock application is the BlackBerry calendar, phonebook and browser. You can check the size of a stock application by clicking the “Options” icon on the BlackBerry. Highlight and click the “Status” option. Press the BlackBerry button on your device. Scroll down and highlight the “Database Sizes” option. Scroll through all of the stock applications to find the one you want to check the file size on. Locate the size of the application located to the right of the application name.

Remove an Application

If you want to remove an application from your device after finding out that it is problematic or it is too large for your device, you can remove the application by checking the application size based on the instructions above. Then, click the BlackBerry button on your device. Click the “Delete” option to remove the application from your device. Turn your phone off by pressing and holding the “End Call” button on your phone. Remove the battery from your phone. Leave the battery out for five minutes. Put the battery back in your device. Turn your device on by pressing and holding the “Call” button on your phone. Check your applications again to ensure you successfully removed the application. If the application is still listed in the “Applications” screen, you can repeat the directions to remove the application from your BlackBerry device.
