My name is Zaid Aysen. I was born in Durban South Africa. My parents are Cape-Malay so although I stay in the Eastern part of South Africa (ie. Kwazulu Natal), I could probably be classified as Malay or Coloured. I was born and spent a small portion of my youth in the closing days of Aparheid. Although I may not have been as intensely affected by the racial discrimination that my parents and grandparents may have exposed and subjected to, I do in fact have a facial scar that bears testimony to the injustices perpetrated at that time.
As a youth, I attended a coloured primary school in the area I stayed in with fairly substandard academic and sporting facilities. However, as times changed, I was accepted into a predominantly white Senior primary school and high school and attained a matric exemption from Westville Boys' High.
I then took 2 years away from academic studies to go to Cape Town. In Cape Town I studied in a Muslim Theological Institution known as Madressah Miftaghul Ilm where I put the entire Arabic Quran to memory.
After graduating from the institution as a Hafizul Quran, I then initiated my tertiary academic studies. I have subsequently graduated from the University of Natal with a Bachelor of Commerce Degree majoring in Taxation and Accounting.
I have always had a keen interest in the banking sector and have worked my way up from clerical to management. I am now the Area Compliance Officer for Kwazulu Natal for HBZ Bank Ltd.
My interest in engineering though stems from the chosen area of expertise of my father and other family members. My father is an Electrical Engineer but he deals quite extensively with large mechanical instruments and machines. He is also quite extensively involved in construction and large project maintenance. So although it may seem ironic that my interests are so strangely diversified, I have always have a keen and enquiring mind and am always eager to expand on what knowledge I have. I also have a keen interest in Marine engineering because of the inherent interest in ships and naval vessels which I had from when I was a child.
