I am an educator; I discovered my passion for educating at a later date in my life. It happened one day working as a special needs teachers assistant. The young man could not tell time, and it opened a whole new world for me in respects to what I take for granted.
I also write and edit for a living. I have been editing a good deal of years, but in the past few years my love of writing returned with a vengeance. At first, it opened up in academic publications, but evolved back to my original love - fiction and poetry. I recollect looking back at my teacher evaluations from grade school, and how my teachers repeatedly wrote "Jenine is a natural and gifted writer." I guess I am giving myself a chance to finally find out! Before this, I was spending my years dancing professionally in ballet and modern dance.
Other passions:
--My dream to complete my PhD. Furthermore, to complete this degree through online learning rather than the traditional route I took for my B.A and M.A. During my M.A, my work was a balance of both traditional and online work and study. There are some barriers to break through though in terms of online learning. Will my degree be as recognized if I obtain a non-traditional degree? It's ironic because I teach online, and I advocate online learning. I believe we are embarking upon a new frontier. Yet, in terms of my final degree, I have barriers I need to cross, or perhaps our culture needs to cross first in terms of its acceptance of online learning as a legitimate means of education. First, I am taking a break from studies, and also considering studying for a 2nd M.A. in Education. I have since decided to get out of the fast track of academia and hope to obtain my PhD before I retire :)
--I am a visual artist, in both traditional art (painting and photography), and digital/graphic arts.
--I dabble in electronic music, and write lyrics for a few musical artists as a hobby.
These are the reasons I get up every morning and enjoy my cup of coffee :)
-- B.A Honors in Sociology, Psychology, Conflict Resolution Studies
-- M.A. in Sociology

-- Prairie Theatre Exchange -Acting Program for Students
* Each of these great opportunities in my life has opened up multiple doors; thus, I am only outlining my achievements as above in order to condense this section.
However, one award that I am particularly proud of was an academic award granted in 2004 through the Northern Scientific Technology Program (NSTP) for my research surrounding socio and environmental solutions in the North.
Due to the breadth of my experiences, I may have to come back to this and quantify the essentials for you. In the meantime, I do not wish to burden you with a cumbersome 'resume'.
Presently, I have been editing, writing, researching and instructing for nearly a decade. In the short term, I am currently working as an instructor, writer, and editor for various online companies. What I hope to accomplish over the next months are the publications of a co-written book, a book of poetry, and a novel in the making.
