My first experiences as a kid playing video games came with the appearance of an Amstrad in my home. Anyone who can remember playing the classic platformers on this old computer which took over five minutes to load even a demo will surely agree that all the console counterparts that followed, for all their great Sonic games (my favourite franchise character - so much cooler than the Mario bros), just couldn't compete. But the Amstrad faded into nostalgia and my first years as a real hobby gamer began with the greatest starter package surely offered in console history - the N64 with Goldeneye.
It goes without saying how good that game was and the console kept me entertained for years, with Zelda and Mario Kart's poor (but better) cousin, Diddy Kong Racing, establishing the fact that although good Nintendo games are rare, when they are good they are the best. So much so that I was happily able to bypass the next generation of consoles, moving for a while instead into the rather more hardcore realm of PC gaming.
In terms of this hobby at least, that takes me to where I am now. I've kept my allegiance to Nintendo, brought about back in the day by all my peers' love for their Playstations, and currently seek out the better games on Wii, just like I did with the N64.
I've learned there are some games, though, which are better kept on PC, and that's kinda why I came on here, to discuss, inform and learn. With my own opinions on FPS and racers aside, online gaming on the platform is unrivalled despite Sony's predictably unsuccessful attempts and only the nature of the gamers on Xbox Live tend to let it down. That said I do enjoy playing the Xbox when I feel like something a little more "hardcore", although I tend to remain loyal to Shigeru Miyamoto and his minions when asked, "do you play?".
I'm almost finished a degree in Music Tech. Although I have taken some small courses in games design it is purely a hobby to me, as I am sure it is for most here!
I've been a freelance writer for about a year now, but it took me a while to discover that the best things to write about are those you know well and those that you enjoy. I am well experienced in SEO, article writing and blog posting.
