I am a freelance writer based in Cleveland, Ohio who enjoys soy lattes and working with social justice issues. My first writing experience dates back to first grade when I wrote a book about my cat, Maggie. I've been working with words ever since. In 2006 I graduated from Ithaca College in Ithaca, NY with a B.A. in both Writing and Art (I was a double major). I wrote expository essays and creative nonfiction stories while creating politically themed silkscreen prints and paintings. During college I co-founded an animal rights group, worked at a sanctuary for rescued farm animals, volunteered at a recycled bicycle shop, and helped serve meals with Ithaca chapter of Food Not Bombs.
After graduating, I worked as an AmeriCorps*VISTA for two years with the Northeast Ohio Coalition for the Homeless in Cleveland where I advocated for the rights of homeless individuals. I organized resident council meetings at homeless shelters and recruited people for the Homeless Congress, a group of homeless citizens who actively worked to solve local issues with poverty.
Currently, besides being a freelance writer, I am a mama to a soon-to-be one year-old son. I strive to maintain a creative life in the midst of diaper changes and pattycake. My son is growing up vegan and will hopefully become a steward for the animals, the underpriviledged, and the environment.
