Tolga BALCI

About Me

Tolga is actually a Master Mariner, graduate of Istanbul Technical University Maritime Faculty. After spending some years in both merchant marine including one year on board naval vessels, he took his MBA in Koc University, Istanbul (2000-2002). Then he started working for the largest container carrier in Turkey, in Agency department for Marine Operations. During his MBA, he concentrated particularly on management information systems, cost control and operations management (decision support systems).

He is a computer enthusiast since Sinclair ZX Spectrum 48K (a.k.a. Speccy), dating back to 1984. Last year, his love for computers made him take a sharp turn in his career and leave his employment to become a System Administrator.

Tolga is now employed by his former company in Systems & Network Support Department. He is enjoying his daily life playing with administering a lot of servers. In addition, he is currently involved in designing and implementing Microsoft System Center Operations Manager and Microsoft System Center Configurations Manager.

Tolga has a strong background in enterprise & small office operational efficiencies, workflow integration and systems analysis. Plus, he loves to integrate existing business processes with the information technology to create a streamlined business environments, especially designing systems to allow people to work at the speed of thought.

1999 - Turkish Navy

• Digital Data Processing Officer for the Commandment of the Southern Sea Region

2000 - Seda Shipping & Trading S.A.

• Information Technologies Manager

2001 - Silver & Baryte Ores Mining S.A.

• Information Technologies Officer. Developed an online database hosted in Company's intranet allowing staff to search for any written material - books, memos, digital editions.
• Information Technologies Officer: Designed a database to be deployed in-house for the Geographic Information System (GIS) files used heavily by the Company's mining engineers.

2003 - 2009: Arkas Shipping & Transport S.A.

• Chief of Operations: Developed applications to convert booking and vessel planning (AS400 and Planmaster) data files to eachother (BAPLIE, Planmaster Native) (Still used by EMES Feedering SAM and Arkas Line),
• Chief of Operations: Developed in and interdepartmental business workflows to be integrated into Company's in-house program.
