I’ve been
in photography since age 14 when I received a “little black Kodak” camera for
my birthday. My specialties are in outdoor and nature photography where
conditions might be difficult at best. Such is often the case for my travel,
adventure and fishing photography since there’s water everywhere you don’t want
it to be, in addition to being under and around the boat or craft you’re in.
Ever try keeping a camera dry when you’re IN the water? On two occasions the
boat I was shooting from sank. My cameras have been destroyed by shipwrecks, bull
sharks, wild boars in the rain forests of Colombia and chewed up by army ants
in the Amazon. We won’t talk about the molten lava, falling hot rocks, rain
forest environments and torrential rains. Currently, I ‘m a University language
professor in Cali, Colombia. Originally my home is in
the Pennsylvania Dutch region of the U.S.
As a freelance photographer and writer, I
prefer digital photography to illustrate my travel, adventure, and
educational-theme articles and blog posts, I sometimes alternate with a 35mm
SLR, then transfer the images to digital format. I frequently encounter are
extremes of heat, humidity, dust, cold and, on occasion, volcanic ash and smoke.
This means that I’ve had extensive practice and learned to shoot under some
very difficult conditions and have gleaned some useful techniques for doing so.
Night photography and shooting extreme close-ups are other favorites of mine
with lots of shooting tips and tricks learned “the hard way”.
