Mr. Carosa is the President of Carosa Stanton Asset Management, LLC, a registered investment adviser specializing in providing private investment counsel to individual trustees and fiduciaries seeking a value-oriented long-term conservative investment philosophy for their portfolio management. During the three-year bear market from 2000 to 2002, while the market lost nearly 40%, Carosa, Stanton clients actually gained almost 20%. Last year in 2003, the firm’s equity performance exceeded 30%. The firm’s investment consulting division, Independent Fiduciary ConsultantsSM, helps reduce liability for retirement plan trustees by acting as a co-fiduciary to the plan while monitoring plans for regulatory compliance and by providing independent investment due diligence. Mr. Carosa is also President and Chairman of the Board of the Bullfinch Fund, a family of flexible no-load mutual funds. He is the portfolio manager of both its flagship fund, the Unrestricted Series, as well as the Greater Western New York Series, the only regional mutual fund investing exclusively in our local companies. For the year 2001, the Bullfinch Fund Unrestricted Series was ranked the 4th best multi-cap value fund in the nation by the Wall Street Journal when it returned 16.73% for the year. The Greater Western New York series turned in an even better performance at 17.69%. For the year 2003, the Bullfinch Fund Greater Western New York Series was ranked as the 7th best Multi-cap value fund in the nation by the Wall Street Journal when it returned 45.66% for the year. Both funds are privileged to be ranked as Lipper Leaders in several categories and both are ranked high by Bloomberg.com for three years (#3 and #4) and five years (#15 and #26) among the 360 funds in its Growth and Income category. In February 2006, the Greater Western New York Series was ranked 10th in the nation in the Multi-Cap Fund category, according the Wall Street Journal. In July 2007, the Greater Western New York Series was featured in Barron’s as the top performing Multi-Cap Value Fund in the second quarter. In his third decade in the investment management business, Mr. Carosa has had the privilege to create several mutual funds, bank collective investment trusts and an investment partnership. He has also started a trust company and consulted with many firms interested in offering financial services.
Mr. Carosa earned his undergraduate degree in Physics and Astronomy from Yale University and his MBA from the Simon School, one of the nation’s most exclusive business schools. Designated a Certified Trust and Financial Adviser by the Institute of Certified Bankers, Mr. Carosa has served as President for the Upstate New York Chapter of the Financial Planning Association, one of the largest chapters in the nation. The author of Due Diligence: The Individual Trustees Guide to Selecting and Monitoring a Professional Investment Adviser (1999 Ardman Regional) and contributing author of Planning for the Affluent (2003 Aspen Press), he is a prolific writer and speaker. He is currently researching how investors can best take advantage of the techniques derived from the Nobel Prize winning Behavioral Economics Theory. In 2005, Mr. Carosa was named the winner in the Journal of Financial Planning Call-for-Papers competition in the academic category and was a featured speaker at the Annual Journal of Financial Planning Symposium in September 2005.He has appeared regularly to discuss fiduciary issues at the annual Art of Indexing conference in Washington DC and has also spoke at the ETF Conference in New York, NY.
Mr. Carosa has appeared in several national publications and news agencies, including Reuters, Barron’s, the New York Times, CNN, the BBC, The Journal of Financial Planning and Advisor Today magazine. In October 0f 2008, he was interviewed live on the Fox Business Channel’s Neil Cavuto show, where he explained how falling oil prices will leave consumers with more spending cash, acting as an unanticipated stimulus. He was the co-host for The Western New York Business and Investment Report, which was broadcast weekly on Buffalo’s WKBW radio. He has been on the adjunct faculty of Medaille College and an advisor on student projects for Houghton College. His main responsibility in life is to provide food, clothing and shelter for his wife and three young children... and to build a model railroad in his basement.
