My Experience

For more years than I care to remember, I have worked in inorganic trace analytical chemistry. I am an expert at measuring very, very little in almost anything you like; environmental samples (soil; river or lake sediments; vegetation etc), marine samples (corals, sediment cores, surface sediments, fish tissue, seaweed etc) or clinical samples (blood, plasma, serum, urine etc). I use plasma mass spectrometry to determine trace and ultra-trace elemental concentrations and isotopic ratios. I write scientific papers and reports and lecture on trace analysis. I have been a frequent participant at scientific conferences and have made invited, oral and poster contributions.

Delayed reaction to insect stings and bites
Almost all of us will have suffered stings and insect bites at some time. For most of us, it represents a painful and irritating experience, but for some, an insect sting or bite can cause an allergic reaction at once or in the hours and days folllowing the incident - a delayed allergic reaction.

Exercise Induced Anaphalaxis
Asthma and allergies affect many people in the western world. In extreme cases, allergies and asthmatic attacks may lead to anaphylactic shock which needs urgent medical attention and can be fatal. In some cases, anaphylaxis will occur during, or shortly after, the victim has exercised.
