About Me

I am married and have two sons. Although I was born in the UK and follow England's exploits on the field of sport with Quixotian zest, I have lived outside the UK since 1989. It provides for an interesting perspective. During these years, I have lived and worked in Belgium (Ghent); France (Vienne and Montpellier); Monaco; Austria (Vienna) and Switzerland (Bulle). I speak fluent French, passable German and enough Flemmish to order some really good beers!

My Experience

For more years than I care to remember, I have worked in inorganic trace analytical chemistry. I am an expert at measuring very, very little in almost anything you like; environmental samples (soil; river or lake sediments; vegetation etc), marine samples (corals, sediment cores, surface sediments, fish tissue, seaweed etc) or clinical samples (blood, plasma, serum, urine etc). I use plasma mass spectrometry to determine trace and ultra-trace elemental concentrations and isotopic ratios. I write scientific papers and reports and lecture on trace analysis. I have been a frequent participant at scientific conferences and have made invited, oral and poster contributions.

I am currently working as a freelance writer and actively seeking new clients.
